Problems with brakes on my 03
Ok first off are there any known issues with the brakes on the 03 model year?
My problem seems to be brake related.. but i'm not totally sure.
It started about 3 days ago. I was driving and when i went to stop it kinda made a deep groaning sound and started to shudder slightly. Over the last few days it has gotten worse. I've only owned the truck for 2 months. I bought it from a chevy dealer, I know i'll get flamed for that but oh well. Any ways I took it in to then yesterday and they machined the front rotors still the same thing, I just dropped it back off there and they are gonna do the back ones now too. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will fix it. If not what else should I look for? I did notice it made the sound this morning on way to dealer with no brake pedal pressure, I was in 3rd gear going around a corner and it made the same noise. So i'm not totally sure it is the brakes. The dealer said the rotors were probably warped. Is machining them going to fix this? Would i be better off just replacing them?

These days, mfr's are shaving weight every place they can.
Rotors today, tend to bee on the ragged edge of too thin after machining. Any heat from braking tends to warp them. I ALWAYS replace rotors. I never machine them anymore.

No I don't think they have still waiting to hear back from the dealer. The one doing the brake work is the chevy dealer I bought it from, if the problem continues I will be taking it to the local dodge dealer. I'm trying to avoid that tho as they have a really bad rep in our area. I have heard about bad u-joints on these trucks. Not to mention they are very expensive from what i've read. Not sure if that would be covered by any warranty.

As rossn2 said, I would go the u joint direction first. Just had to do mine @ 45,000. Makes a heeluva shake from about 35 mph to a stop, atleast thats what I experienced.

Dealer just called, sounds like it was the u-joints. So they machined my rotors for nothing... oh well they are gonna take care of it for me no charge. I guess i will have to buy them some doughnuts on my way to work tomorrow. I guess I can forgive them for being a chevy dealer, they got my truck back on the road at no charge to me.
