Problems with 2002

My buddy is having problems with 02 . He says he can be driving it and all of a sudden it has no power and then it suddenly comes back. Local shop where he is at put a scanner on it and they ended up putting a TPS and a map sensor in it and it still did not fix truck. Any suggestions??

Sounds like a lp going out. Had a 2001 do something similar.

Hopefully he has a fuel pressure gauge as they are a must on any VP44 powered engine. My bet is the VP44 though.

I don't know what codes it is showing. I talked to him a while ago and told him to check fuel pressure.

I just experienced the same. 'Twas a slowly deteriorating lift pump that eventually caused the VP44 to eat itself at 67K miles. My mechanic had the same with his 2002 at nearly identical mileage. Installed the in-tank lift pump conversion and a new VP44.
