Problem with Xzillaraider XZT box on 06 CTD

I picked up a used Xzillaraider XZT (non adjustable) box for my dad's 06 CTD. Installed it on Friday, seemed to work good on the test run after the install.

Dad drove the truck on Saturday and the check engine light came on and it started running rough, and even dying on him on the way home. When ge got back I uninstalled everything and it seemed to run ok, but the check engine light came on.

Anyone know anything about these boxes? I have a call into the mfg. to see what they say, but they aren't open for a few more hours to even get my message from this weekend.

Thanks for any help

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH your here too!!!!
I'd check the pins on the Map and fuel senders, I have heard of a few that those were a little loose, or not seated all the way.

I am shipping mine back today for them to test. I was having the same type of problems. Then Thursday, the rail pressure suddenly came up and the truck started accelerating all by itself. Not good! I hope they can get it worked out.

Where did you buy it from? What is the serial # and are you sure it is even for a 2006 truck?

If it is up to date and for a 2006 truck the first things you need to check are the pins on the wiring harness. First check the 12 pin connector that goes to the module, in particular check the red and black wires to make sure they are seated properly. A lot of people get rough when they run the cable through the firewall and these can get pulled loose if there was enough force. Not saying you did it but, the person before you could have?

Next check both the rail and map sensor connections for the same issues.

If that does not work let me know and we can check the serial number to make certain it will work on your truck.

Did you ever get it to act up by itself? Or is it still acting goofy with the Juice on L5?

Thats a pretty wild feeling isnt it? Luckily, mine happened in a fairly empty parking lot, and I was able to slow it down almost to a stop with the brakes until my brain caught up with what was happening and turned the key off.

I think mine is finally all straightened out, two weeks and no codes or rough running.

Thanks guys.

I gotta give this company MAJOR credit - I left a message on Saturday and they called me back PROMPTLY this morning to help me figure this out. I got some suggestions from the tech on the phone, and I'm gonna work through what was suggested. I'll post up the numbers from the unit when I get home.

Also turn the key to the ON spot, and note the flashing LED, colors.
Its another item Quad might want to make sure it has the correct flash for the truck.

I noted the colors (green, orange, orange) and they said that was correct. The fact that it worked, then later did not made them think that it's a connection issue, or a loose pin issue.

Yes, I think its a wiring issue also. When I had mine in the 03, I experienced the surging, rough idle, and dead motor while driving issues. Almost every time, I was able to wiggle the connectors to the Map and FP sensor and it would return to normal.

Tried that. No worky.

On edit: Guess I should have made it more clear: My issues have apparently been resolved. They sent me a new harness and module. I havent heard anything back regarding how the old set up tested out (not sure if I will or not).

Ok, dad left both batteries unhooked overnight - did not reset the check engine light.

I have started and stopped the truck several cycles, no change. I haven't had time to drive it yet - but it seems to be running ok so far - will try to drive it in the next few days for a few miles and see if it's still acting up.

I pulled the factor harnesses last night and check all the pins - they all looked good and the factory connections seemed good and seated properly.

One thing I noticed is that there seems to be a voltage issue as well in the truck - not sure if it's related. When I start the truck, the lights noticable are dim and te voltage seems low, then the voltage climbs way up an the lights all come on bright when I rev up the engine.

I'm about to think my only option is to take it to the dealership

That could be just your grid heaters cycling on and off. Dont know what the temps are down there, but that could be it.
When I had problems in my 03, I also had mysterious little electrical gremlins. My grid heaters cycling caused a significant change in headlight intensity (compared to what my 06 does). Every now and then, my overhead would quit reading anything. My blinkers wouldnt work periodically (seemed to be related to position of the steering wheel tilt). My heater control wouldnt change location unless I turned the fan all the way off. I'm sure there were a few others.
THose are the primary reasons I decided to trade it off. Something somewhere in my truck was wrong. Thats also why I didnt hold Quads feet to the fire with the connector issue, as I believe it was likely my truck causing the incompatibility.
