Problem with New Trans and fluid
Ok well this is gonna sound crazy cause it does to me. I just had a fully built all billet 48re done and I installed it. Everything went smooth. It got a mag double deep pan, tcs triple disc etc etc.. Well everything was completely empty. I was told 19 qts is what I needed for tcase and all.. I put about 5qts in the converter and 2.5 in the tcase. Got everything done and started filling the trans. I ended up putting all 19 qts in it and it goes in gear and drives perfect. But barely any fluid is showing up on the dipstick! I have checked it in both nuetral and park. I have drove the truck for a while and steadily checking it and same result barely any on the stick!! Whats the deal with that? Should I put more intill its on the stick in the right spot? I don't want to mess my brand new transmission up. Any suggestions? I know its not leaking cause for one it would be overheating. Which it runs about 190 degrees and two every time I parked it I looking for fluid on ground and saw nothing.. Any ideas????

put some more fluid in it if you over fill it the extra fluid will come out the top vent. cheaper to waste a quart of atf fluid than to waste a new trans

Well I have another question. I added 20 quarts total and still nothing leaking out a vent line and it still isn't in the hash marks.. But my question is. I put my dipstick tube in the transmission and it lined up to the bolt hole perfectly.. But when I try to put the actual dipstick in the tube it doesn't wanna actually sit flush all the way down. You push it all the way down and it will pop back up about half inch.. I have that dd pan and that pan has some spacer for the filter. I didn't build the trans so I don't know how that spacer and stuff goes in but is it possible that my dipstick is hitting something and making it pop back out of the tube that extra inch and getting false reading? Even if I push the dipstick all the way down, if its hitting something ill still get a false reading. What yall think?

OH! for petes sake. Put fluid in till gets to full mark with trans fluid warm and idling in neutral. Fluid capacity is not a exact science. I have seen some benefit to a pint overfill The dipstick frequentlly springs back out due to tension on fill tube. If you can put the filter on, you should be able to place spacer above filter and use longer screws. I hpe you used ATF 4 for unit.

OH! for petes sake. Put fluid in till gets to full mark with trans fluid warm and idling in neutral. Fluid capacity is not a exact science. If your trans is built to use non ATF+4 fluid then use what fluid the builder said other then that use ATF+4. My self if I had a rebuilt trans I would use either Amsoil or Redline synthetic ATF, its better then standard ATF be it Mercon V, Dextron III or ATF+4. Yes many have used Mercon/Dextron III and a bottle of Lubeguard but its not as good as regular ATF+4.

The dipstick wont sit down all the way in the tube for nothing. I push it down and it pops back up about half inch every single time.. Didn't do that before I had the trans built.. Whats up with that? Also about the trans fluid I didn't ask my builder what fluid. I just bought Mopar atf+4 fully synthetic and used that.. Is that bad?

You did the right thing by putting in ATF+4 synthetic.
Drive it a day or two, then check it again. I do not think you will hurt it with all the ATF you put in. Check when the Trans is hot, level, and in nuetral. Good luck.

FYI Mopar ATF+4 is only group III highly refined dino fluid. Mopar ATF+4 fluid can provided Group IV style performance from Group III stock but it is not made from group IV chemically engineered stock like Redline or Amsoil ATF.
