[rant] I thought this thread to be a comment on what's happened to the diesel fuel industry since I've been keeping track....which would be the day I purchased my 1993 Dodge Cummins described in my sig new from the local dealer shortly after Christmas 1993.
At that time, diesel was priced below the price of regular gasoline. It was kind of pegged at x number of cents BELOW regular and had been priced that way since the beginning of time. I'm sure it had something to do with the price to manufacture the fuel, which was cheaper than that of gasoline, hence the cheaper price at the pumps. Having 30 gallons aboard my truck always resulted in large purchase prices for fuel but I didn't have to fuel up all the time either. Seemed fair to me.... The 60 mile round trip back & forth to work reminded me that driving my full sized Dodge Cummins pickup was akin to driving a Volkswagon, fuel economy wise, as it constantly get's 23 mpg on the road and still to this day does, but was way more safer being a large vehicle. Anyway, over the years starting about 1999 or 2000 one starts to notice the price of diesel surpassing regular gasoline prices....then they go by the mid grade gasoline price....and now all I see as the difference is that there are MANY more diesel powered vehicles on the road and diesel prices are peggged now to be ABOVE the price of premium gasoline. The only thing that's changed is their use of the generic term "premium" which they always display before printing the word diesel. Anyone else notice this?? I guess that means they can (and have) jacked up the price now that vehicles powered by our type of oil have become very popular.
I realize there's nothing one can do except maybe burn untaxed number 2 stove oil, number 1 if it's cold where you are. An easier method would be to quit voting for Republicans and Democrats (I'm a card carrying Libertarian but that's another story) who've proved one thing time and time again, that honest, taxpaying americans can't afford their vision of government. But it seems to me and in our society that either big business is out to screw you out of your last nickel and if it isn't them, government seems eager to fill that void. When it comes to the shifty price of diesel one doesn't have to look back too far and see WHEN it all went wrong and I guess , like the Democrats and Republicans who join forces to screw the taxpayers all the time, big oil and government have teamed up to screw the motoring public....just like they've done since day 1. Premium diesel....if that isn't an oxymoron (like military intelligence) I don't know what is.... [rant] Thanks for listening and feel free to post your comments. Chuck
