I'm planning on ordering either an Outerwears or Amsoil pre-filter for my Amsoil EaAU 4510 air cleaner. I'm wondering what kind of life-expectancy I could expect from these pre-filters. I'm curious because I was talking to someone tonight who mentioned that Amsoil recommended their pre-filters be replaced every 6 to 12 months depending on conditions it's used in. I tried looking on their website and didn't see anything mentioning something like this, but, I could have missed it. Also, I question this guys info, but, figured I should ask those that are actually using pre-filters for more accurate info. So, any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Outerwears makes ours and they told me as long as you wash it to keep it pretty clean they will last dang near forever!

So in your case I would buy the Outerwearsif what the Amsoil guys says is true.

qzilla, thanks for the info. I just found what that guy must have been talking about on the Amsoil web site. It was under the "cleaning" section for the pre-filter info. Amsoil stated their pre-filters should be cleaned something like every 3000 to 5000 miles. Then, they state they should be "changed" every 6 to 12 months. I'm actually a little disappointed since that's the case with their pre-filter. Even more so since their EaAU air filters are an excellent product...at least my 4510 has been problem free for about 1.5 yrs and performs as advertised. For the pre-filter, though, I think I'll stick with ordering the Outerwears.

Well, I just found on the Outerwears website that they state the same recommendation as Amsoil...change every 6 to 12 months. Appearantly it doesn't matter which one I go with. Obviously, I'll just do what everyone else appears to be doing and not worry about the replacement intervals. I got the feeling that their recommendation is based more on the pre-filters ability to repel water over time. Since they both claim the same in every way, I'll just order the cheaper one.

You hit the nail on the head. I think the recommendation has to do with the ability to repel water. I have been running the same one for about 2.5 yrs. I just wash it every so often. It has lost some of its waterproofing, but it repels a good bit still. I dont think much water is gonna get to it anyway on the second gen. I have gotten the one on my 1st gen a little wet.
