I havent been reading to much on fuel additives lately. I'm sure because summer is coming, but I just got a bottle of Powerservice from Wal-Mart and was wondering if its going to be a waste of money. I've never used any fuel additive before even though I've read of all this great hype about how they improve fuel milage and performance. Just wondering if there is any pro's or con's to using the stuff?

That's all I've been running and can't honestly say one way or the other. I've read wear a lot of members here say they're all pretty much the same, and from my experence I'd agree.
I know powerservice claims to have a cetain boost but can't say I've noticed any difference. I mainly run it for anti-gel in the winter.

I just got some power service from Wal-mart yesterday. All i use, but this time i got Power service diesel kleen(silver bottle) instead of the "regular stuff" in the white bottle. Diesel kleen seems to be more focused on rasing cetane,lubrication, and injector cleanliness, instead of anti-gelling (it does have "some" anti-gell agents). I switched because its warm enough around here now to not have to worry about gelling.

Been using it all winter and recently stopped because of the temps also. I now notice that the off boost smoke is back so I guess I'm gonna continue to use Power Service year-round.

The only Power Service product that made a noticable improvement in fuel mileage is the Diesel Kleen; an entire bottle to a tank as recommended. But, it still worked out to break even as the increased fuel mileage just about paid for the bottle. Winter blending is about to end, so don't mistake the increased economy on the additive. I use Stanadyne, but haven't noticed a thing with that either.

I have a cummins and a vw tdi both are automatics. I can see 1mpg difference in the cummins + less smoke by using powerservice addative. In the VW my milage goes up 4 mpg using it. I use it year round. I have checked the milage with and without powerservice several times on both vehicals and the milage consistantly rises when I use it and falls when I don`t.
But the main reason I use it is for the lubricity not the milage. If it makes the components in my fuel systems like injectors,pump,ect last longer that is worth more than the milage. I consider the milage a bonus.

The power service is a real good fuel additive. It gets cold here and a few years ago it got so that things were geling up. We have a milk hauler that was getting fuel from same pump as other truckers put he was putting power service in it. His never geled up but all the other guys were. Good stuff, it is what I use.

I didn't notice anything when I started using it, but I sure notice when I miss a tank. Rougher start up when unplugged, more smoke - both white when cold and black when hot.

I've been using Power Services (white bottle) since last October. Never gelled down to 20 below. The last fill-up I used the new Gumout Diesel additive. I seem to have lost milage, but so minimal who knows. Next one it is going to be the silver bottle.

Stanadyne PF here. I started using it this past winter for the anti-gel properties, but also for the lubrication properties as well. I am going to use it every tank year round.

I noticed a slight mileage increase (blended fuel), 0.5 mpg or so. Too close to call, but with the VP-44 I feel it is worth it.

Started dumping 1/2 a bottle of the silver PS Diesel Kleen at each tankful early last month....think the bottle called for an increase of +3 cetane for 1/2 bottle @ 25 gals, and +6 for the full bottle, or something like that, i'd have to read it again. Can't say it's really helped the mpg's, but it did seem to improve throttle response a wee bit (could be just my imagination as well), but after 75K of no addiitive at all it may have cleaned something who knows?

Looking ahead to earning that Cummins 1,000,000 mile badge (if i can keep the rest of the truck together that long). But i agree with the majority it sure can't hurt, and if it helps keep my VP44 running at worst it's cheap insurance.

I bought 4 cases of gallon jugs (4 gal/case) of Powerservice white bottle. Should last me a little while.

I notice a slight difference in noise of the engine. That is all. I am more concerned about using it for the pump.

When I had my '97, it sat up for a few months, and only ran maybe twice a week. It started to miss at high idle. So I dumped some powerservice in, and rev. it up to 2800 for 2 minutes. THen i ran it down the road at 2800-3000 in low gears and it cleared right up.



I use Lucas Injector Cleaner. I mainly use it for its lubrication properties. I use 12oz. per tank, every tank. I also buy it by the gallon, its cheaper.

I have used Powerservice, MarvelMystery Oil, and Lucas, and have not noticed an increase in mileage. I decided to stick with Lucas, and like I said, I use it only for the fuel lube purpose.

The power service is also a fuel lubricator, there is a winter and a summer blend. I have noticed that my truck started up easier in the winter when using it. As for a increase in milage I am not sure, hard to tell when you are running winter fuel and letting it sit and warm up.

Well, after running a tank of the Gumout (gold bottle) stuff through, I can say that it didn't do very well. Basically I lost 30-40 miles out of the tank, and I have quite a bit more black smoke. On the bottle they advertise as doing a big injector wash, maybe that has something to do with the black smoke (cleaning them out). But, I am going back to Power Services for sure.
