On my 2001 24 valve were the vacuum pump bolts to the front of the accessory drive gear it is pouring oil there is there a gasket there or is it just silicone. I tried to tighten the bolts it slowed down but did not fix it. Going to take it off tomorrow night. If it has a gasket would anyone know the part #. Thanks Mike

I would suggest this kit, as long as you are in there you may as well replace the vacuum pump seals and o-rings as well. I just did mine last weekend.

The Dodge part number is: 05140342AA and they get about $65 for the kit

The Cummins part number is: 4089742 and I don't know what their cost is but it's most likey half the cost as from Dodge.

The kit comes complete with instructions, two o-rings, a seal and the gasket that goes between the pump and the engine block.

I ordered the kit today going to start taking it off, I'm going to put in the whole kit, is there any good pointers I should know. Thanks for the part #s and all the help Mike

Did you order it from Dodge Or Cummins?? Was this the part Number Seal Kit Part#4089742, I just did mine it was $8.16 from Cummins..Comes with O rings and Seal and Gasket...

I don't know if this is in those links, but I would urge you to take your Radiator out to get the Vac.P/P. steering assembly loose from the block then separate the Vac pump from the power Steering pump. This way the power steering pump can stay intact to the truck(no hose cutting). Besides your Radiator is probably 20 percent pluged from the vent bottle fumes so it will need a good degrease/cleaning.

Hose cutting? I only removed the intercooler pipe and air horn no hose cutting involved.

RADIATOR?????? WHY?????,,,,To get the Vacuum pump off,, Has nothing to do with getting ANYTHING off the front of the engine, The BACK of the timming case is where it bolts on..,, I separated the power steering pump from the Vacuum pump in the truck THEN took the two bolts out for the Vacuum pump and removed it from truck,, Just like the above post,, Removed the intercooler pipe and air horn,,,,

Put the kit in today everything seems to be okay with no leaks. The kit came from cummins and was not to bad to put in could have used a third hand putting it back on though. Thanks for all the help. Mike

i would to know how long it took you to do the repair , i have the seal kit but am waiting for better weather

Your a better man than I... It's the worst job I've ever done on my truck!!! And I had an extra pr of hands for the hard parts.
Nothing went back in right. 30 min to get the PS pump back onto the vacumm pump shaft all the way... and the bolt on the bottom bracket of the PS pump is almost unreachable.
Start to finish was 3+ back-breaking hours!

Maybe it was just my turn to have trouble?

I originaly pulled my radiator to clean it, and when I noticed all the wide open space I had foward of the pump, I jumped at the chance to do the Vac job and unless you'v separated it to the front, I can't tell you how 2 handed easy a job it turned out to be. Especialy sliping the vac shaft back into the steering pump seal. NO chance of buggering the seal when you have a abundance of room to work in. Hardly had reason to use any of my explitive lubricant at all!! And I have read of a number of other people cuting the P steering hoses to get the 2 assemblies on the bench to work on.

I started at 8:00 rebuilt the vac pump and worked on electric vacuum pump for the trailer, had to replace some hoses that rubbed hole in against the frame. I got done about 1:30 but I was in no hurry though. It wasn't no cake walk, but in comparison to vac pump or clutch I would tackle the vac pump any day. But then again when your done fixing your truck its always easy to say (That wasn't to bad of a job) Thanks Mike
