power mirror switch

i just installed tow mirrors on my truck, got everything plugged up and when i went to adjust the mirrors by the switch, the IOD fuse blew. lost my radio, interior lights and mirrors. so i replaced the fuse, same thing happened. i went to the nearest autoparts store and the guy said they dont carry the switches. anyone know where to buy the mirror switch? for cheaper than the dealers $92 switch? i mean come on, $92 for a switch?

thanks

Make sure you routed the wires behind the retention tab on the mounting frame.
Sounds like you pinched the wiring to me. The factory mirror controllers are priced in a very wide range. Mine was 36 bucks from a dealership in Wisconsin.
Check the wires before you spend any dough on a new switch. A lot of guys have done this when installing tow mirrors.

ill check it out, but when i pulled the panel off to install them the switch wasnt even plugged up (the stock power mirrors didnt work when i bought it because it was unplugged) so i plugged it in after i put the mirrors on and as soon as i touched the switch the fuse popped. does that narrow anything down as to if its a switch or wire?

I would suspect the wiring or the mirrors themselves before the switch.

Thanks. I'm curious to see what you come up with. I assumed my switch was bad as I got it from a wrecking yard. It's interesting that you had the same malfunctions I did.

Gonna revive this....

Anyone ever figure this out. Just did the exact same thing on Dad's 02 and have the exact same problem.

The switch we have will work the passenger side mirror, but will pop the fuse on the driver side mirror. I was thinking its the switch. Did anyone get a new switch and have everything work properly?

ok Blake, now im trying to bump the thread.

i have the same problem, took the mirror off and found some crushed wires. cut em re-soldered em back and heat shrinked everything back... installed, new fuse and same thing happened

so now im thinkin the switch. the one i found on LMC says for a 95-96 ram... any luck?

The switches for the mirrors were the same 94-02, Dakota and Durango also used them I think.

If its blowing a fuse and the wires aren't pinched/crushed stripped of insulation, it is very possibly the switch,

You should be able to check it with a multimeter.....

Well I ended up finding the crushed wires on Dads truck. Fixed them and all was well.

I would venture to say, without having a faulty motor in the mirror itself, that the switch would be at fault.

As much as I dont like the place, Ebay, would be your friend in this hunt for a new switch.

The switch should be the same across all years of the 2nd gens.
