Can anyone supply me with the wiring diagram for the power mirrors on both a 05 and 01 2500; I am going to do the swap of the new power tow mirrors from a new dodge to my 01. I know that I have to switch the bases as well. I was told that the plugs are different in the two trucks. so I need to know which wire does what function (up, down, left, right, heat) Just thought it would be allot easier if someone has already done this and can tell me instead of trial and error for a hour or so.

Looking at some old notes, I believe the following is what I finally used:

Passenger door = Mirror
Yellow/Blk = Blue
Dark Blue = Grey
White = Green

Lt Blue = Black (Heat)
Black = Black

Driver Door = Mirror
Yellow = White
Dk Blue/Lt Blue = Yellow
Yellow/Pink = Blue

Lt Blue/Yellow = Black (Heat)
Black/Green = Black

I do not recall the year of the replacement mirrors I bought - you may find different colors in yours. The plugs in my truck were not the same as the plugs in the mirrors.

sure would like to see some pics of it done.ive wanted to do that as well.do they bolt rite on?how about the plastic stuff on the outside?post some pics of it during the swap would be great.thanx

Clay- what you will find is that the there are three wires that power the adjustment of the mirror. Determining which wires to connect is a little time consuming but not that difficult. Depending on the position of the switch You will find that each wire coming from your truck can either be positive or negative or neutral.

I found removing the spring the most challenging.

Will it hurt anything if I hook it up wrong or will it just work backwards I dont really want to fry something in my new mirrors. Did you find any tricks when taking the mirrors apart or putting the mirrors back togather? It seems like everyone who has done this says it is well worth the time and money required.

I plan on taking alot of pics and taking note of which wires hook up, I hope im not getting into something too hard.

I can't guarantee you won't fry something - however if you test for just a short period I don't think anything will be harmed. You will see right away it either works right (goes the right direction and only one direction) or it goes the wrong direction or tries to go two directions at once (kind of crab like sidewise). I had some trial and error before I got the wiring right and it did not seem to hurt anything.

As far as "tricks"

Don't solder any of the wires until you are sure the mirrors work correctly

Look at the pictures
Be patient
Compare and study the old mirror where it attaches to the old base and the new mirror.
Test fit the new mirror to the old base - grind a little and test fit frequently.
The first one I did was not pretty and took a long time. The second was much faster and came out better.

I had read somewhere to grind part of the old base. Which I did on the first mirror. Looking back it didn't appear to be necessary.

The second mirror I just ground (actually sanded) on the post on the new mirror.
