Power Locks/Windows Swap?

Has anybody swapped power windows/locks into a non-power truck? Is the wiring still there in a non power truck? I would have a complete functioning donor to take parts from, wondering how involved it would actually be once I get in there. Havent worked on that stuff before. Thanks for any input!

Redoing the doors is bad enough. Getting it out. Finding that all holes are not present. Bolt holes missing, welded brackets missing. Cutr hole for wire harness. Hopefully have correct door panels. Remember they different also. Then rewiring dash after pulling dash and hair out at same time. Only to find difference in major wiring components and everything including front harness has to be replaced even though donor is with wrong engine or 1/2 model year different. No the wiring is NOTthere.
You braver guy than I if you try.

This is a cake job. The wiring is in the dash. The plugs are under the dash on each side. You will see blue and yellow plugs on each side. The speaker and dome light wires will be plugged into one. You need the wire harness from the doner truck in each door that plugs into these plugs. That gives you power locks, windows and mirrors. You will need the power window motors, power door lock latches, mirrors and door panels with the switches.

The passenger side is easy. Driver side may be a bit more work to get the wire harness removed because it goes up over the park brake to the top of the dash. You have to remove the 5 screws at the top of the dash and drop the column. Then swivel the dash down to get the wire harness out. You dont have to remove the dash on your truck as you can feed it through over the park brake and tie it up.

I assumed all 2nd gens would be the same, in case im wrong, let me clarify. I'd be using a '97 functional donor to swap into a non-power '96.
dguru - sounds like you've done this before. So the wiring on a no power truck ends under the dash rather than in the door? As long as I have the donor truck I should have all the necessary wiring, just a matter of finding it and hookin in huh?

Yes

Everything is the same from 94-2001 except the switches. I have a 94 and when gathering parts wound up with 96 wire harness with switches. I got 2000 locks and motors and grabbed the door panels, switches and some wire out of the 2000 as well. The early model switches are crap and break easy. The 2000 switches are all in one and are more solid. They also have auto window. I spliced the switches into the 96 harness and it all worked great. I should have grabbed the 2000 wire harness to start but we do some strange stuff.

I used dakota power mirrors because they were chrome swing out type and had to change the mounts and plugs but they worked out nice.

Then I got the compass console, lighted visor, electric rear view, glove box lamp, bucket seats, tilt, cruise and fog lamps. All parts were removed from 1500s under the CARS program.

I am still looking for a under hood lamp and power lock rear. The yards always rip out the hood lamp because of the mercury switches. I am looking at ford F350s and E350's for the power lock. I have 2 electric seats for extended cabs but they don't work in regular cabs. I hope to make a trade someday.

Wow, sounds like you've added some major options. I saw you mentioned the compass console. That was another thing I would like to add as well, is the wiring for it up in the headliner? Did you find all your parts at local junkyards?

Yes all parts were from 1500's at the yard. The console has a harness that runs down the driver A pillar. You can get it when you get the wire harness for the windows. Dash has to be flipped down. I had to splice the power wires and had to scavenge some plug connectors to go into the big plug at the firewall for the temp sensor. The wires are in the hood harness from there on to the sensor. The sensor plug will be hanging by the horn wires.

You might as well get the powered visors and power rear view mirror as well.
