Powder Coated Wheels
This goes out to all the powder coated rim guys. So I am thinking of getting my rims powder coated. I was wondering if it threw your tire balence off at all? Also, when getting your tires put back on did it effect the bead at all or did you just coat the face and not the inside of the rim. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Don't do it!!! It will throw everything out of wack on your truck if you paint your wheels

Mine where coated inside and out...
No problems at all. After several tire mounts...a slight line has worn through the coatign where the tire spoon spins...but it is out of sight.

i dont think it will throw off the balance the amount that goes on there is nothing major heck a rock stuck in your tire tread will weigh more then the coating and for duribilty you cant beat the coating i coated my chevelle frame and 3 years latter with many passes down the 1/4 mile it still looks brand new what is the cost for your wheels??

I had it done to some stock wheels. no issues with balance that I knew of. They just put the weights on.
Problems I ran into. To much coating on the inner hub ring. There is not allot of room there and my wheels had two coats on them. I was using a hand file to remove material at the tire shop.
I also ran into issues with the coating cracking under the lug nuts. Made the second coat start to peal. This may of been a problem with the application. But was still a pain for me.
Cost is around the 50 a wheel mark, depending on how much sand blasting the wheels need. Don't forget the 100 bucks to mount and remount the tires before and after the coating is done.
My last set of wheels I just painted. To me they look just as good and quite a bit cheaper. That and touch up will be easier. JMHO

Powder coat!
My friend had it done while his truck was up at Carli's. Came out beautiful. No problems. Definitely toned down the bling. Off the thread,but my buddy just returned from a 1400 mile Baja trip. 2.5 King Performance system worked out great.

Powdercoating can get pretty thick - we have to allow for ~ .060" on the parts we fabricate. For wheels, the best thing is to mask off the center hole and lugnut seats (axle grease works well 
) or remove the PC before mounting from those areas.

Im thinking pretty hard about getting some stocks wheels powdercoated. I thought it would be alot cheaper than it is. I thought of just painting them but I figured it would scratch off when the tires are mounted

Mine were done inside and out. The $50 per wheel price sounds about right. Like XLR8R said, have them mask off the center hole and the lugnut seats. The wheels went on fine, a little tight...but when I went to rotate them, I had a hell of a time trying to pry them off the hub. Ended up sanding them down a lil so they weren't so tight.

I was thinking about having a set of chromes clear powder coated, but was informed he's having about a 50% suscess rate. Appearently the chrome bubbles off on about half of them he does. Bummer cuz it would be the perfect fix to keep those chromes looking good forever.
