Possible tranny cooler freeze up?
I had a question along this topic. I made my own cold front insert which fits in between the grill and the front-most tranny cooler. I have the sport and didn't want to cover up the sport billet grill. I have nothing to block the cold from entering the opening in the bumper. Does anyone know if you can freeze up your tranny cooler in realy cold weather if you don't have a weather front to protect this area? Also, which end (top or bottom) of this cooler does the tranny fluid come from and return to the tranny. I thought if the lower end was the hot comming in vs cold going out, might prevent freezing without a weather front - Help anyone?
p.s. it's -28*C here now with the wind chill!!

I agree with Driver, it won't freeze.
However, I don't know if extreeme cold temps will cause the tranny fluid to run at a temperature below what the engineers designed it to run at normally. In general, cooler is better for the tranny but I don't know if extreme cold is harmful. Dunno.

If its like the second gens there will be a heat exchanger that the TF goes thru after it leaves the converter in attemp warm it to engine temp.
But when I go out to my garage to look theres no 04.5 there to look at

Don't worry about it. You will notice that the tranny doesn't shift that well until the fluid warms up to about 96 degrees, then it will start to allowthe tranny to shift into OD and lock th etorque converter.
If you won't a nice winter cover then buy the one from DC, yes it's costly $100 but it covers everything up front from inside the engine bay and you can't even tell it's there from the outside.
The only indication that it is there is the temp gauge and the fan kicking in earlier to get air flow
