Possible new 08 6.7L ???'s

I am looking at possibly buying a new 2008 Dodge 2500 QC SB 4x4 6.7L auto Lonestar truck. Was quoted $16k off sticker.

I have heard about a few DPF problems with the 6.7L trucks?

This will be my daily driver. My commute is 80 miles round trip, 60% hwy and 40% city. Max speed limit is 65 mph.

I am currently driving a 2008 Hemi QC 4x4 and on the same commute I get about 14.5 mpg. My previous 2007 5.9L Cummins Dually (totalled 8-08) used to get 17.5 on the same trip.

Except for the mileage, the Hemi has been great. We will keep the Hemi and trade in my wife's chevy for the 6.7L.

cdhd2001:

Before you go out and buy that truck, I would go into the 6.7 Section of our Forums here and do alot of reading on the problems many of the Members here have been having with those engines/trucks. Down here in eastern N.C., our two Dodge Dealers are seeing alot of problems with the engines and not just the DPF's. The EGR systems are giving problems as well as the turbos getting filled with soot and the amount of codes the engines can generate is pretty surprising too. Not trying to discourage you, but to help you be aware of the problems those trucks can have.

Good luck Sir!

Get the build date on the truck and check all TSBs after that date.
Make the dealer put in writing that the selling dealer will perform all those pertaining to the truck, PRIOR TO DELIVERY
flash the ecm to latest version, PRIOR TO DELIVERY
enable the exhaust brake, PRIOR TO DELIVERY
put the high idle harness in, enable hi idle, PRIOR TO DELIVERY
and you should be good to go.
