Popping fuel press gauge.

When i first got the below gauges, the fuel press gauge was installed wrong and made a clicking or popping most of the time. It was reinstalled 2 years ago the right way and worked fine till about 2 weeks ago. Now the popping/clicking has come back. Almost like theres an air bubble in the line. Its only when im just barely touching the pedal to maintain speed. At idle and when i give it just a little more, Its silent. Any ideas what it is anyone??

Do you have a snubber? If you do, could the valve have moved?

if your using a solid fuel line(steel or braided hose) the VP noise will be transmitted into the cab, especially if touching metal anywhere

I have no idea about the snubber. I wonder if I AM touching metal somewhere cause if i remember right, I do have braided hose. Hopefully ill get the time tomorrow and i can trace the line. See if im touching or rubbing on anything.

You really need a snubber or needle valve to limit the pulses from the VP, that in itself can ruin a gauge and cause noise. if you need a picture of one PM me your e-mail and I'll send ya one. I orginally had stainless from the vp to the gauge, had excessive noise, so I had to add a piece of rubber fuel line from the VP to the stainless, you might be rubbed thru on the grommet where the hose enters the cab.

I have read where some guys found it better to introduce a bit of air so that it acts like a cushion for the gauge (quiets the gauge) maybe yours over time worked the air out and thats why you have a noise, again just a thought

That makes sense i get what your sayin. It turned out to be easier than that though... got under the hood and found and followed the line, It was rubbin on like three dif things! Got a couple zip ties and strapped it so its touchin nothing now and the noise is gone! I think im just gonna take it out eventually. Since i got my Juice/attitude, I just keep fuel press on that and dont need the mechanical gauge anymore. Think ill through in a rear diff temp gauge to fill the pod hole. Ive been pullin alot lately and have a diff cover on its way so might as well make use of the extra room right, Thanks for the info Nickg.

Nickg is giving you guys good advice on the "snubbers" for all F.P. gauges.
"Auto Meter" makes a real good one, it is called a "Fuel Pressure Snubber"
on their website and in their catalogs. The part number is #3279 for any of you that are interested. As I recall, it runs around $20.00-25.00.

Every 4 months I have to take my gauge off and put it back on, allowing some air to "protect" the gauge. Once the air bleeds out somehow it will start to make noise, popping,rattling, whatever you wanna call that extremly annoying noise. So, i just remove the gauge and blow some air down the stainless line (With the truck off of course) then throw the gauge back on and the noise is gone for a few months.. That what i was always taught to do, way before they had needle valves, or what not.. i dunno might be wrong but it has worked for me for the past 3 years
