Poor Fuel Mileage
I am new to Dodge diesel as I have had Chevy 6.5 for several years. I know I am smarter now. My question is what kind of mileage do folks get on 02 2500 Dodge? I am getting 9.6 right now. I live in Alaska & we tend to warm them up a little but this seems pretty bad. I changed air filter but have not changed fuel filter yet. Truck has 62000. I am considering K&N filter upgrade. Any more suggestions?

people claim that their trucks are averaging close to 20 mpg or better but i've never been able to get that high. over last few tanks i've been getting a little under 14 mpg with town and highway driving. it used to be about 1.5 mpg higher before we got this ULSD crap. i hate it less mileage and it makes the motor rattle more

My mpg is usually in the 17-18 range when going over 70 mph unloaded. Best I've ever gotten was 20 keeping it under 60. Towing my Jeep it usually drops to 16. I think the ULSD fuel has hurt some and you are probably getting a winter blend which drops it even more. All things concidered your mileage seems pretty bad. Is this hand calculated mileage or from the computer. I understand the mileage displayed on the overhead is not allways accurate.
Before you go the K&N filter route do a forum search. I've heard they pass too much dirt.

I mainly use my truck for traveling and I do get 20-22 mpg regularly. Im never loaded with much. Just me my wife and our luggage. Usually the ground here is pretty flat. I also watch me speed and the wind. If Im running straight into a headwind Ill slow down to 65 or 70. If the wind is from behind Im usually running 75. It all varies on how you drive, what youre hauling, and where youre driving. I also run Howes full treatment, just the basic stuff and have never had a problem with anything. Also, when I do drive in the city I usually average about 15-16.
Well, thats my .02.

With my Comp box turned off, I get about 16.5-17mpg. With the Comp box on, I only get about 13.5-14mpg. For this reason, I leave the box off until I need it.

I gettin 13.5 maybe almost 14 around town depending how I drive it. With the programmer on stage three all of the time I cant help but romp on it every so often, by that I mean all the time! I get about 18/19 on the highway depending on the terrain. I know if I can hear that turbo whitsleing loud its drinking fuel.

I currently get 16.5 mpg in town/stop and go driving, and on the highway its anywhere between 18 and 20 mpg. It depends on what speed i'm going. If i do around 60 or 65 i can get 20 mpg. I have 4.10 gearing in my truck and a new VP and LP. Before I got my new VP and LP i was getting around 14.5 mpg in town and about 17 on the highway. All my figures are hand calculated since i have no over head computer. My truck is mostly stock except from what you seen in my sig. I also maintain my truck regularly.
