ponci's event, new times and a new warning
Ponci's drag day was a great event and the weather was perfect.
I have a new time of 11.89 @ 119mph. So I am now officially in the 11 second club.
I am also in the "I blew the rear freeze plug" club. On my last pass, (it is always the last pass isn't it?), I blew the freeze plug at the end of the track... Just like many others before.
Here is the warning though, I have an Opies bypass kit installed that is supposed to prevent this. Before I go any further, do not take that last statement as a bash on Opies bypass. The point I want clearly understood is that because you have a bypass, -I suppose regardless of mfg-, do not fall into a false sense of security like me and think you are covered!
Happy dieseling!

Congrats Terry! Gotta one-up me, eh. You got me by .02 seconds...guess I better get out to the track again, hehe. Your trap speed indicates there's even lower ETs still in her!

What is the flow pressure set at on the Opie's kit???? I know you can buy a universal valve and it can be set at any pressure.
Also what water pump are you running? I just replaced the water pump and it had a smaller impeller and a cover/shield that looks like it will reduce the flow/pressure.

Some of the blocks had a somewhat sloppy fit on the plugs. There was a slightly larger plug released back a few years to replace them with.
Too bad Cummins did not make the "storm" block a full "storm" block and thread the water plugs in as well as the rest of the plugs when they made the change.
When I assemble engines I use locktite 620 on all the plugs. Oil and water. I have NEVER had one pop out. I also run a 600 flex hone very lightly pre the laquer thinner and # 620. Hone, laquer thinner, # 620 = zero failures. Very light on the hone. It is more to clean the area than opening it up. You dont want it opened up at all.
I used to have these visions of someone popping a plug at the race track and lowering friction enough to slip around on the track surface. Imagination can fill in the rest of the story.
