Polished compressor housing

I picked up a polishing kit from Harbor Freight some time ago, finally got a chance to use it. This is the housing of my new 64/71/14. Sorry for the poor picture quality.

I just got to research for a good clear coat that won't turn color from heat.

get a sanding disk for an air grinder and sand those casting marks off then repolish it...makes the job look 10000x better

that looks good. the bad thing is that polishing something makes it harder to shed heat. in other words your compressor housing will run hotter now.

I thought about doing that when I took off the Schwitzer name, but by then I had enough with the polishing.

MikeD, I'm sold on your idea. Did the Harbor Freight polishing kit perform as well as you expected? While most of my engine parts are at the machine shop the next few weeks, I may as well head out to the barn and start polishing.
Any body try the Duplicolor Engine Clear coat?

Sure did, for $20.00 you can't beat it. The only brand I could find in clear coat which seemed to be worth anything was called VHT. Autozone carries the VHT brand but you'll probably have a hard time finding it in a clear. I had them order me a can, so I won't be able to clear coat the housing until Tuesday.
