POD's loading up the engine

I have been trying to drive "nice" because of the K2 blues, and noticed that those darn POD's are loading up my engine, so that when I finally romp on it they activate the emergency broadcast system to report a blackout.

I love the power of the POD's and can't go back to the BD's, but does anyone have a suggestion as to the next step up (or equal) from the POD's that are still economical?

Interestingly, I'm pulling down 17.5 MPG or better mostely in town, so I can't gripe about the mileage! But I don't want to score the cylinder walls, cause stiction in the rings, or have the pistons strike carbon buildup on the fire deck.

I'm running the DDP stage 3's right now, and absolutely love 'em! I had been running POD's and was getting sick of the constant smoke they always put out. These smoke a lot less around town, almost none at all, but still put out real good power. Doesn't feel quite as strong as the POD's I think, but still runs real hard. I'm happy with 'em.

I cannot stand to go backwards in performance, but I will investigate your recommendation for sure! Thanks!

Edit: DDP rates their stage 3 just above the POD's (55RWHP and 53RWHP respectively) so that looks like a good choice. Too bad the stage 4's ar $200 bucks more!

It's not much if any at all, but it just pulls different. Maybe because it pulls so much smoother. Dropped about 4#'s of boost at wot, but maybe because it's actually burning the fuel. I'd have to put it back on the dyno to really know. Speedo still zips right on up tho. I don't remember how much they cost...got 'em from piers, tho.

Maybe if I water inject I can eliminate the buildup. I love the power of the POD's....

I didn't grind off the lever, but I do have the fuel screw all the way in. The star wheel is all the way up with it's top edge even with the threads. I also have the smoke control screw all the way out even with the housing.

It doesn't smoke much at all when I drive carefully, but if I drive carefully (not lugging it of course) for several days and then mash on the foot feed the day turns into night.

This is nothing new by the way, it's been this way I put in the POD's. I might be the altitude in combination with the 16cm housing (and the POD's of course).

Yes, inquiring minds want to know, also are they based off of a stock tip?

Yeah, you're just blasting all the extra soot out of the pipe. Don't look to water/meth to cure that - water/meth only activates when you drive "enthusiastically."

I'm thinking about misting the inlet with a water/meth mix starting at about 2-5psi to see if I can clean it up. I have a set of misters and a high pressure fuel pump, and am going to stage the system. The mist will be very, very fine and consistent so I am not worried about tearing up the compressor fins. They are pretty pitted anyway and need to be replaced.

From what I gather, yes a stock tip. Then they extrude hone them. http://www.dynomitediesel.com/injectors.htm
