Plumbing fuel pressure gauge

What are the pros & cons of taking readings after the filter vs. using the schrader valve on the vp44?

Pro for post filter is that dodge will check the pressure on the schrader valve, so if you have a line attached, some dealerships won't check it. Con is it's pretty hard to get to the bottom of the filter housing to install it. You'll get the same readings in either place.

The schrader valve on the VP44 is after the fuel filter. The purpose of the guage is to ensure the fuel is under pressure going into the VP44. The are 2 reasons for no/low pressure; a bad lift pump or clogged fuel filter. Tapping for the guage after the lift pump and before the fuel filter only checks the lift pump. One could still ruin the VP44 if the filter is plugged.

The question was post-filter vs. schrader valve, not pre-filter. You'll get the same readings post-filter or schrader valve.

It wasn't that hard to connect to the bottom outlet of the filter. Just remove the two bolts that hold the filter housing on, connet your line with a needle valve & a tee.
