Please Help, Wastegate
I think my wastegate is stuck. I was pulling a hill yesterday and all of a sudden I hear a loud whooshing noise, well the truck is empty now and I still have the noise that whooshes when the turbo spools up, sounds like it's bleeding off boost.
Please explain where the wastegate is, and how do I close/open to see if it works correctly.
It has a clean filter, and I unhooked the Xzillerator.
thanks

I would'nt think it would be a wastegate but I could be wrong, have you checked to see if maybe it blew an intake boot? If you have a boost guage and the hose going to the guage gets a hole or a leak it will make that sound. Just my .02

Yah, I haven't inspected the set up on my truck to see how everything works ( I'm gettin' lazy in my old age - 33 ) but, the wastegate more than likely would not produce any audible noise since it should simply bypass the turbo and go directly back into the exhaust. If it was stuck open, you wouldn't be able to produce much boost.
I should go look under the hood of my truck. Do we have a blow off valve? The BOV would vent excess intake air when you lift off the throttle and the plate closes. I assume if we have one it dumps back into the intake side of the turbo. If that hose came loose it would make a woosh sound.
Either way, it sounds like a tube, hose, etc. has come loose. Start checking connections.

Do you have the plastic tanked intercooler or the aluminum one, if it is plastic you probably blew it up. The early '05's came with the plastic intercooler and people have been blowing them up with a stock truck towing.

I have seen posts of the electric solenoid sticking. So that could be it, just depended on where it is stuck whether or not you have some boost. I think the posts I saw said the dealer just cleaned with some type of spray cleaner. Not sure.
But I agree that you should look for some other boost leak first. Fill spray bottle with soapy water and spray all the connection points, intercooler etc. Just give it some throttle with someone in cab or brick. You may not be building boost, but you should see any leaks that way.

I guess its the intercooler, as I chalked the wheels put it drive and spooled it up. Blows air out of the front passenger top of the intercooler. Its going in Tues morn for a leaking rear diff, and loss of power with whooshing sound. I've got to take a trip up into ID, so I hope they can fix it quickly.
