Please Help Me!!!!!!
I am fairly new to this forum, and this is my first post, but i really need your help.
I have only had my truck for 2 months and i started having tranny problems a week after i got it.
Heres my problem, my tranny wont shift sometimes until you get the engine up over 2500 rpms. To fix it all i have to do is stop, put the truck in park, and then put it back into drive. Then it works fine until for some unknown reason it happens again. This is a very intermittent problem, sometimes it will happen twice in one day, and other times it wont happen for two weeks. I took the truck to a tranny guy who serviced the tranny and put a new governor pressure switch in it. He also checked for engine and tranny codes and found none. I did the apps reset procedure after he did that still did not solve the problem. I am almost positive that it is a sensor/ computer problem since it is so intermittent.
My truck has 105000 miles on it, so its not under warranty anymore, but i am thinking about taking it to the dealer and having them run diaganostics on it.
What should i do?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

To me it sounds like TC is slipping and not driving the truck. Only other thing is check fluid level, color, and smell to see if it is time for a rebuild. Do you now past history of truck or just bought it. If you don't now history might have been abused and it is about the mileage if not taken care of for stuff to start breaking.

I was getting ready to say the same thing bdewey...seems like since your truck is not shifting, then you stop, put it in park (take all load off the torque converter) then put it back in gear and things seem fine again that your torque converter is starting to go. Another thing that MIGHT stop you from shifting is as stated, burnt up ATF fluid or a clogged filter. I would start there, it's the cheapest and quickest possibility to knock out.

clutch pack
It could also be a clutch pack going out. My 96 did the same thing. I didnt have to stop to get it in gear though. Most of the time all I had to do was; once the rpm's started getting high, I just let off the gas a little and it would slip into the next gear. I never did get it rebuilt before I sold it, I even towed the 5er all around and it held up.. hope this helps until you get er fixed.

Thanks for the input.
First of all thanks for all the input.
As for the torque converter, it happens in 1,2,3 gear before i get up to 45mph, so i don't think thats the problem.
I don't think its the fluid or filter because I had it changed when the governor pressure switch was put in 500 miles ago.
I could be my cluches though, is there any way for me to check them to see?
I live in Lubbock, Texas
The one thing i forgot to tell yall is that the check engine stays on whenever i turn the key to the on position. Once i start the truck it turns off. Im not sure if that means anything.

LISTEN! Look at the linkage AT the transmission. I have seen this at least 25 times. The shifter linkage ( where it is bolted to the tranny ) has most likely come loose. When this happens, it hangs up the kickdown cable. When you put it back in park, you just released the kickdown cable- problem fixed! UNTIL the next time you push the skinny pedal down far enough for it to catch again! Check it out! I could be wron, but the first one I fought that had this problem took several days to find!!!!!!!!!!! Every time I put it in park on the hoist, the problem would hide itself again! Let us know!

VZDUDE. Thanks for the input, but I checked the linkage at the tranny and everything seems to be fine, if you have any onther ideas please let me know.
What do yall think about taking it to the dealer and having them do a diagnostic check on it since it seems to be an electronic problem.

Not all dealers are bad , it would seem though that the manufacture sets up the dealer such that its hard for them to do good .
With out recommendations from what ever neighborhood your in , I would think that your odds of finding a good shop would be with the after market shops , but go to one that calls them selfs a auto trans. shop , then they should be able to find most of your problems .
I do not know if you have picked up yet , but the TQ is a big weak point , so getting a multi clutch , billet TQ .

I had a similar problem with the E4OD in my old Ford. After being told by the dealer that I needed a rebuilt tranny and torque converter to the tune of something like $3K, I talked to Brian at Brian's Truck Shop (some of you might've heard of his BTS trannies for the Fords). He told me it sounded like a shift solenoid. Sure enough, I took it to an independent transmission place - they replace the solenoid for about $200 including labor and viola - the truck is still shifting smoothly for it's current owner today - almost 100K miles later.

Try moving all the linkage at the trans wallawalla. It sure sounds like what youre describing is what I've seen before. Make sure the small lever on top isn't binding or anything. Chock the wheels, put the e-brake on, and have someone put it in gear while you're under there and then move it and make sure it is free. The lower (shifter) could be hitting it when it is in gear, but fine in park. I could very well be wrong, but I'd bet on that of some nature is messed up! Make sure they are both tight, and there is a little room in between them - maybe a 1/16th of an inch. Also look at the shifter cable bracket and make sure it is tight. It could be letting the shift lever interfere as well. Nothing else, try unhooking the top ( smaller ) of the two cables, and driving it. This will make the truck think you are putting around with barely any throttle, and it will shift early, but it will also tell you if youre looking in the right direction. Let us know! ( I still don't think it is an electrical problem, the only thing electrical is the governor and 2-3, 3-4, and o/d solenoids. If there was a problem, 2 things.....1st there should be a code & 2nd there would be some sort of consitency to when/why it happens)
