Pinion bearing
#2
Cummins Guru
The rear bearing closest to the gear is pressed on. You can take pinion to a machine shop and they can press on a new one. The races are pressed into housing but can be removed with a drift punch. You also need to replace nut and pinion seal with the new bearings. Before removing carrier mark adjusters so both sides can be put back to exact position or you will change backlash. You will also need a turning torque meter to set pinion bearing preload. If this is not done bearings will not last long if set to tight or to loose. Some mechanics have a natural feel for how tight but I always check to be sure.
