Pinch it off or no??...

My truck runs about 17-19LBS of boost before the wastegate kicks in. So my question is, would it be ok to plug or unhook my wastegate tube, and run it "wide open"???? How much boost ya think I would gain??

I had mine completely blocked off for a while. I made 35 psi once. I got a homemade elbow on there now.

You can put a pair of vise grips on the line to try it out, with as much fuel you have you should be fine. After you get to where your going over 35psi it is best to hook up some sort of elbow or regulator to keep it at 35psi...

Thanks for the input. I figure with the way my truck is setup. (not much fuel compared to most of you guys, yet) If I can get a little more boost outta her she will keep the EGT's a bit cooler. I cant get over 1100 degrees out of it yet, no matter what I tow. When I get some time Im going to make a heat shield for the BHAF too...

I made my own regulator and I have pics of it in my profile. A long time ago, it was said that you shouldn't go over 30 psi with stock turbo just to keep intakes temps cooler and save your turbo and get the most efficiency and all that. I think that's what Cummins said. Then someone decided that 35 psi was okay. It might be okay, but it's still obviously hotter than 30 psi. I keep my boost at 30 psi now. I just decided that it would be a little nicer for my truck. My stock turbo has been up to 45 psi before.

Anyway, you can make or buy a regulator like mine. It's just the brass fittings in the pic and inside there's a spring and a ball bearing. The spring holds the ball against the inlet up to a certain pressure. You adjust the spring force with the bolt on the other side which compresses the spring.

If your not hitting over 1100 you prolly dont need to do it. I hit 34 once, but usually it stays around 31 at WOT empty. I did the turnbuckle/spring method.

drolex: How did you do that 360?

Thanks XLR8R.

2500CTD, I did the 360 very carefully.
It was about 3:30 am and it had just rained thus the streets were wet. I had the camera man make sure the streets were clear, I came around a corner, still catious, and coordinated my momentum, turning and throttle to sping the back end around, do some more turning, keep the wheels going forward and then more turning... The brake is not involved.
