The instructions say that you have to mount the new a-pillar to the old pillar. Why is this? I don't see why I can't save the old one and mount the new one with longer screws that the ones that are included. It doesn't fit very well over the top of the old pillar. The tweeter fits really terribly in the new pillar also. Wants to fall out all the time.

Yeah it's crap. I just did mine and wasn't happy with it at all.
I'm over it now though.

I had to cut the whole speaker area out of the original to kind of get it to fit ok.
I think the best thing to do is use some good plastic glue and glue them both together and not use the pins and maybe use one well placed screw.

I've found if you have a gauge that is a little loose then you can use some clear scotch tape around the gauge. It helps to fill in the difference. I don't know how the tweeter fits in but this trick might help.

I know on my 01 I did not put it on top of the old one. Didnt see the point in it. The only real issue is the new ones dont have the retaining clips (at least mine didnt). So while it will sit up there with a friction fit underneath the rubber stripping once you add the gauges the weight might be a bit much. I drilled one small hole through it into the metal A pillar and used a screw. I placed the hole/screw directly underneath one of the guages and you really cant even see it. And if you paint it (the screw head) the same color as the pillar you would be hard pressed to see it.

On mine i used double sided tape for it. Real tough stuff. But during the summer months it started hanging down and sagging away from the existing pillar. So i left my stock one in place and drilled 4 small holes in the pillar and used the push tabs are like interior tabs and there flush mount and can't even notice them really. Looks good and is solid as a rock.

What's the deal with the pillar mounts? I am finding a number of different ones and tried the overlay one and thought it was garbage. What's the best fitting two guage w/ tweeter pillar you have found? Sorry to hijack.
