Peanut oil
Every time I go to Home Depot, I see a 5 gallon of Peanut Oil for those fryer's. I just keep thinking would this be a good fuel additive? Has anyone tried it or am I out of my

Well the simple answer is Mr. Rudolph Diesel designed the original to run on peanut oil. So yes...
But the more complicated answer is for our use the oil usually is processed in a way to break down certain acids and kill any mold growth and get rid of water. For our use it has a very short shelf life.
There are experts here than can better answer this... in the alternative fuels section of the forum.

If it were a 12 valve, id say knock yourself out! But these 3rd gens have pretty touchy injectors, dont think id try it...
Im running Power Service and ashless 2 cyc each tank, so far so good.

why not use a additive that is made for our trucks....cetane is in most additives now so you feel a little more getta-up witch I like. Peanut oil has a lower BTU then regular #2..so it wont burn as hot=less power. IMO the only gain you may get is the lube of the p-oil..but 99% of the additives out there on the market have cetane and some sort of lube. I will stick with the Howes meaner Kleaner..
it's the only additive that has kept my rough start-up idle from coming back.

^^^ what you say may be true, but so far the bio-diesel has, by far, the most effective lubrication properties out there for our engines. The amount used for the lubricating purposes and all the way to 2% (maybe5%) will not affect BTU content enough to harm power or mileage.
If I could get it readily, I'd be using it readily.

and like cquestad said I think it is hard on injectors......
Rudolph Diesel was not injecting Peanut oil at 28,000psi either

My injectors love me...
Rail pressure are tuned to no more than 26.5k and filtered down to 2 micron.
That is what common sense gets ya and a few gauges.

Nah, the bio-oil can be a lot cheaper than the other additives. Think $15 for 96oz of PS. vs. $15 for 5 gal peanut oil.
But-- just for lube purposes... no injector cleaner obviously. As far as added cetane-- I don't know personally, have only read where cetane is often improved with it and besides the clouding and gelling at a higher temp than regular #2, it doesn't ignite as well at the lower temps. Like in Montana in January.

I didn't mean to snap...but the MP-8/injector arguements are like saying guns kill People...which they don't. People kill People.
Tools can be used correctly...or not.
