Stands for Automotive Service Excellance, your local mechanic should be certified in this. For you car, A1-8. If he is working on your truck he should have a bit more (cant remember the tests he should take for that cert). Biggest thing is that employers look at this a lot.

Check out www.ASE.com for more info.

That's great !!!! Those are definately tests that require study ... which is precisely the reason I didn't pass the one I took .

Keep at it, bud.

Good job passing the tests, they're not easy. It's too bad that the ASE organization is just a big marketing company ripping mechanics off for thousands of dollars for a crappy plaque to hang on your wall. I believe that their pricing is way out of line. It would cost almost as much as a college education to get certified in all the different test they have now. I used to be a big fan of the ASE program but now I think the organization is a joke. I used to be certified in all 8 automotive catagories and the L1 engine performance. I got tired of coughing up cash to keep up the certs, it's almost like blackmail to me.

P.S. Just because they call themselves "Non-profit" doesn't mean that they don't have a bunch of executives making 6 figures!

Congrats on passing your ASE tests!!!! Keep on going and take the rest of the tests. This country needs more certified mechs.
Yes it is only a piece of paper with specific credentials, and so is a high school diploma. Try getting a job without either of them and see where you end up. They are both VERY important documents that will open doors for employment that can be a career, not just a job!!!

Congrads on passing your ASE tests....I hope you pass all your tests and become a Master Technician

I've been a ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician for 18 years and take pride that I've passed all 8 tests

Being ASE Certified helps the pay check too.....empolyers will pay a ASE mechanic more money

I figure I will take 4 more the next cycle and then the last two and maybe try out L1 on the third cycle.

(the tests are available only every 6 months)
