parts number needed!
parts number needed!
Does anyone happen to know the P/N for the alternator brushes for a '92 Cummins? I finally found a place here in Corpus Christi that said they probably have them in stock or can order them for sure. My problem is the truck is my only transportation right now. My wife did the searching for me today while I was working and they told her they need the number. The way she understood it was it was inside the alt. I would really appreciate any help.
The cummins manual does not have a number for this, sorry, but any good parts guys should be able to cross reference the # for you from the alternator number. Dodges have nippon-denso and bosch alternators if I am not mistaken. Go in person to a parts guy( napa, autozone etc), get the part number of the alternator, and if they don't carry a kit, you can use the number to get it from an autoelectric company.
Truth be told, any autoelectric company who wants your business will take your information, and do the search for you.
Your alternative is to spend less time fixing, but more money (about 150 american$), and just do the whole alternator. If you are uncertain about the job, spend the money, because I have seen guys mess up on a rebuild attempt and end up spending more money anyways. Then you know it's done, and have warranty. It's a 10 minute job to do a swap. Very easy. I just did mine, and due to laziness and lack of time just swapped alternators.
If you're in a cash pinch, try a wrecker. It'll be cheaper, but the warranty, if any will be shorter. I hope she's running better for you soon.

Thanks for your time and info uncleroty. Yea I am just trying to save a few bucks ands I enjoy tinkering with things and learning. No parts store, including the local dodge dealer could help me with the brushes. I finally found the one and I agree with you, they should be able to do the search.
Hey, try checking out this site it is the company that all of the rebuilders get their parts from, you should be able to get some parts numbers for ND & Bosch units
