Question Parking Brake Release Broken

Pulled the plastic latch for my parking brake yesterday and nothing happened. The plastic clip that attaches to the latch and the end of the release cable broke away from the latch. Anybody replace this mechanism before? Is it costly? For now, I just pull the latch out of the way and pull the end of the cable myself, seems to work.

Mine broke a while back. I think the dealer told me it was $30-35 for a new one; seemed kinda high for a hunk of plastic to me. Another member posted that he had drilled a new hole and gotten the rod end through that new hole to make it work. I gave that a shot, but I couldn't get the thing back in there, so I just took the rod off and replaced it with a piece of 12 ga. stranded wire.

The same thing happened to me. I drilled a 1" hole in the broken plastic release and screwed the plastic to the dash. I made up a lever that hooks to the wire itself and ran the lever through an old socket, which fits nice and snug in the 1" hole. The lever slides in and out of the socket, which stays in place and guides the lever. I think it looks pretty cool, but my roommate doesn't. Ehhhh, it still gets the job done though.

I'm reviving an old thread hoping others have gone through this. Mine has recently broken also. Has anybody replaced the plastic piece with a new one. I have it jury rigged now and I would like to fix it properly. Any advice?

Mine broke and I went to a junk yard and took one out of a half ton and put it in my truck. If you go the junk yard route make sure you take the metal rod and the plastic lever. Good Luck, Eric

Do you have any pics of that? Ive replaced about 3 of them.

Also, its a PITA if you get the new lever and try to install the wire into the back of it. It will really frustrate you trying to get it done. But a new one will run about $35. How much did they want at the junk yard?
