Paccar engines, where they come from ?

The description says they are built by Cummins in the US, but looks like they are from the European DAF truck company ?

Is this a new era for Peterbuilt and Kenworth where they are puttting aside Detroit and Cummins for a European engine ?

When they came out a mechanic at the dealer said the big bore paccar engine was the same engine that Daf uses in the XF105 trucks and the little MX8? is a re-badged cummins 8.3. International has gone the same route. The Maxxforce 11 & 15 are german MAN designed engines and the Maxxforce 5,7,9 are Internationals. The reason for this is because the Europeans have had more time with the emissions so they have it down better. Heres an 8.3. This guy is my hero .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWEFld4lEMo

As d22 said, paccar PX series are small cummins, and big DAFs.

The maxxforce series is an interesting mix. the small engines are 100 percent farm tractor, the 11 is in a league of its own, and the 15 is based on a CAT 3406E bottom end, with a combination of MAN, farm tractor, and CAT top end. Sounds like a pain, but it seems to work fairly well so far. One thing they appear to have improved, is the core of the CAT bottom end. Hopefully fewer broken cranks and premature bearing rolls.

My brother is driving an '11 Peterbilt with a PACCAR. Truck has less than 50K miles and has been in the shop at least once a month for one engine-related failure or another. He says compared to his old N-14 the PACCAR is a pig; no power at low RPM, have to drop gears to climb small grades at highway speed and you need to rev the snot out of it to make any kind of power. And those are the nice things he has to say...

Note they only have a 2yr/250K mile warranty whereas most others offered three years and 10,000 hours (unlimited miles)

The Class 8 motors (MX Series) are made in Mississippi and are the only heavy-duty diesels to use compressed graphite iron blocks. They way they say it makes me think they believe that's a good thing

Yep, Paccar engines are a bit of a puzzle! They're said to be made by Cummins in the US but also linked to DAF, a truck company in Europe. It looks like truck brands like Peterbilt and Kenworth might be trying out these European engines, leaving behind the usual Detroit and Cummins ones. It's like they're starting something new!
