The original compressor for my Pac Brake has failed; it was mounted on top of the motor. I've ordered a new one and plan on relocating it to the recommended spot under the air filter box. How difficult is this procedure? My initial view is that space appears to be at a premium and my hands don't work well in small areas. I've downloaded and printed the mounting instructions from Pac Brake and I either have, or have access to, the necessary tools including air tools. Will the original air line between the compressor and air tank still be long enough? Thanks for any replies.

This is news to me that the recommended location has been changed to under the filter box. Sounds like a PITA. Can you provide a link for the download for the relocation literature? Does the new compressor come with any provisions for mounting in the new location? I agree that space is going to be very tight under there.

I pieced my pac system together cuz I didn't want the comp. on the engine. I put mine on the frame under the back/left door... opposite the exhaust so it will be cooler. I can hear it if I'm stopped in traffic but not going down the road. If you put it under the filter box, don't put it on the metal fender. I put my intake heater solenoids there when I moved the batteries and it sounded like someone hammering under the hood. I moved them to the plastic inner fender and they're quiet now. Craig

the ones who run many miles have had many failures in the compressors, the heat and engine vibration kill the compressor. we switched to bd because of this. on our pac trucks we frame mounted the compressors like mentioned above and stooped all failures. i do not like the new pack location either

Did you move the air tank also?

I just put a PRXB on my truck, but I installed a Viair compressor inside the tool box in the bed. Seems to work well, the compressor is kept clean and dry and isn't too noisy.

we left the tank's where they were. the bd does not use a tank.

My pacbrake viair compressor also just went out after 7 years of service. Mine was mounted just forward and above the passenger-side fender. I called the pacbrake tech Bill Lang, and he was extremely helpful in figuring out a new mounting location with the newer compressor. He has a kit that mounts the new compressor to the back of the bumper, which is what I am going to go with. If you have any questions you should really talk to him, he also has an '04.5
