Got in the truck today and the cruise control wouldn't turn on (lucky me). Pulled the codes and got:

P1596 Speed Switch Always High

Now according to the dealer there is a left and a right side one. How do I go about telling which one is out because there is a difference in price and they are a different module. Why I don't know but this is Dodge and they do goofy things.

Well now my air bag light just kicked on which leads me to think that my clock spring is gone. Wasn't there a recall or something about those?

Let me tell you a cruise control story. I was working on my pop's 2001 qc 2500 as he was having a problem with his cruise engaging, and if you could get it to work it wouldnt last very long. I found that his old mopar batteries (driver side) was leaking acid on the hard plastic vacuum line under the battery box going to the cruise silonoid. the hole was tiny but no vacuum no cruise. I patched it with some auto zone vac line and life was good for pop again.
the air bag thing is a mystery to me but I bet if ya post it in the other (non engine) post several pros will jump all over it!

Yup. My cruise control servo went out years ago. This time it turned out to be the clock spring.
