Exclamation p pumped 24 valve puking out oil

A friend of mine has a 2001 24 valve that he rebuilt and p pumped. It doesnt have 500 miles on it and it is puking oil out of the dip stick. It has had blow by since it first started and if you cover the blow by vent and hold it for a second it will start puking oil out the dip stick. It doesnt have a knock and the performance hasnt changed. We havent been able to get it timed so it is running kind of rough. There is nothing in the oil. What do yall think??

From what i'm gathering, the pump has never been timed and only guestimated? maybe wayyyy too much timing and the rings are leaking because of it. these engines have crankcase pressure in any instance so i can't say blocking the vent is a great idea. Once you block it, the pressure has to go somewhere. Were the rings inspected or replaced during the rebuild? what about the vacuum pump?

Yes it was a complete rebuild. We were thinking the vacum pump also. How do you go about inspecting the vacum pump?

My buddy said it did at first he had just parked it and came out 30 minutes later and there was about a quart of oil on the ground. It has pretty bad blowby for a new motor.

We drove the truck easy today (shift @ 1500 rpms) and it didnt leak at all. Do you think that since the vacuum pump is gear driven that higher rpms may cause it to mess up?

Few simple things...

Was it overfilled with oil? My truck will usually puke some oil out of the blowby tube just after I change my oil. I'd say about 1/2 quart over a few hundred miles then it quits completly unless Im workin it hard or racing oround town then it will leave some on the driveway after it has been parked.

Other than that check on that vaccum pump, or checkout the turbo, if the seal is weak or is not completly seated correctly, this will cause excessive blow-by.

Good Luck!

Are you sure you put the rings in right? They have a special way to orientate them. They aren't just 180*... I think it's 120* or 140* Spaced....

I believe there are two different dipsticks some engines hold 10qrts some 11qurts. maybe its overfilled?? or you have a fuel leak that overfilling the crankcase, smell the oil to see if it smells of diesel. I'M not too falimiar with the 12v engines but do they vent from the timing cover like the 24 do?
just tossing out ideas

Yeah check for fuel very common for injectors to leak. I wouldn't think a turbo because then it would burn oil or puke it into the exhaust. If you plug the blowby and pull the oil fill cap do you feel air pulses in the blowby or hear the compression leaking by. my buddies 04 just broke two injectors and filled the crankcase with fuel did the same thing. Pull the valve cover and run it see if you can see an injector leaking or hear anything. How much exhaust smoke? If power is good and if it starts good cold I wouldn't think rings at this time. Does it run smooth? You could crack open each injector line one at a time and see if you can feel or hear a big diffrence when a a cylinder is not firing. good luck
