I was currious if anybody had any experience putting a p pump onto a 24 valve. Since the injectors are mechanical and the front of the motor is the same it would just be a matter of making custom fuel lines changing the gears and the timing cover. I am curious about this for a repower application, i am wondering if instead of rebuilding the 12 valve we should combine both the 12 pump and gears into the 24 valve and install it into a 96 Dodge.

I was wondering if there is a benefit to using the 24v and it's better flowing head in combo with a performance cam and the mechanical pump? or does the 12 valve build better torque #'s

I should mention that we have both motors in the shop, the 24 valve is out of a 2000 burned out truck wiring ecm and all are gone and the 12 valve is out of a 1996 manual (somebody burned the engine down, block heater fell out dumped coolant scoured a few pistons)

Daily Driver, mild light to light racer and towing rig

HX35 hybrid with 60 mm 6 blade fan w/16cm non WG housing
Performance cam (Piers or DD?)
180 HP injector pump (will the pump need delivery valves?)
What injectors DD stage 2's?


Let me know what you think if its worth screwing around with or not.

You may want to PM Jet Pilot he has the P-Pump conversion from Piers I believe.

This topic is a touchy one for several people. There's people on both ends of the fence that have had it done. JetPilot loves his, while Larry Crawford hates his(haven't heard if he still does in a while). HVAC is thinking about going to a P.

From what I understand, for a 24vP to run like a mild 24vVP, you have to have a fairly big pump. Doesn't have to be a Stooped pump, but it helps. The next step is tons of tuning.

If I won the lotto tomorrow I would do it, but other wise it's not worth it to me.

My suggestion would be to call Piers or Scheids as both can supply parts to help. Enterprise I'm sure could get the parts also, although I have never heard of a conversion from them. Since you have both engines already, and are not losing anything but time from trying it, then I say go for it.

Since first posting i have heard that the 24v like larger Delivery vavles in the conversion application and that timing is a big issue too. so we'll see how involved this gets.

I was on the fence about this one about a month ago

it was either do the conversion or trade trucks

same price either way for me but I was looking at it for other reasons than the most power possible

when I called piers (in oct) they didnt sound too interrested in doing conversions at that time. maybe thats changed now

I would agree , if I won the lotto or wanted a full race conversion ,I wouldnt hesitate
but im looking for just a driver with 400 hp

the info I gathered lead me to believe that the conversion was not worth it for a driver with 400 hp

(I still wish I could have done it just cause I HATE COMPUTERS)

Diesel Dynamics has done a few p-pumped 24v trucks. The first one I ever saw, personally, was their truck at 2002 May Madness. It put down over 780 rwhp, if I remember correctly.

Part of the reason a p-pumped conversion takes lots of tuning is because of the different pop-off pressures between 12 and 24v injectors. It a difficult and expensive conversion.

Well sold the 24v and paid for the machine work on the 12v my friend is going to spend the money and rebuild it. I dont have enough experience nor does he have the money to caliberate it properly from what piers and DD told me as well as what everyone here is saying. Im not going to give up on the idea its just not right for his application nor his budget. Ill keep compiling a file on this till i get enough info to start putting my own together
