Question Overhead Console

I posted a few months back about a broken sunglass holder. Since then I have one map light that has also broken. Upon removal of the whole console, I lost a part to the switch I took apart as an example to re-assemble the broken light. Do-Oh! Now then, I have looked where I thought I could find the whole part for sale (for Cheap) and am having no luck.

Any thoughts, I suppose I could scavenge the junk yards, but I would imagie they will think it's a money item??
(This is the console with the computer Part # 55350655 (w/o LED).

P.J.

I recently bought my CTD, and the overhead console had a broken sunglasses holder also. I just put two drops of super glue along the outer edge of the broken holder,......pushed it back in place, and held it there for 10-15 secs. Looks good now, and I'll never use it anyway.

Also had a map light out,......mine was just the bulb however. (sounds like yours is the switch?) Replaced the bulb, and I was good to go........

Total cost of overhead console project : $.79 bulb, and 2 drops of super glue.

Worked for me.

Yeah, the switch is shot (little white pins that hold it together sheared off). My wife poped the light in a bit too hard and the switch came apart. Prolly could have fixed it with a little patience, but after losing a little brass part.....
Add that to the already broken sunglass holder, and you know.......

I'm going to scope out a few junk yards early this week if I don't get any definate responses here.
Thanks.

You can get the wiring/switch package separate at the dealer. I have a couple extra switches from doing repairs. I usually hit the sides with a soldering gun to "weld" the two halves together, or put a dab of epoxy on them.

Mine broke also along with the sunglass holder. I got the wiring and switches out of a overhead console out of a minvan. Had to solder the switch in, but my map light is fixed. I was actually looking for other parts, saw this, remembered, threw it in my tool box and they didnt even charge me forit! So I fixed my map light for free!

PJ...

I finally fixed this stupid thing.

The plastic rods that stick out that hold the button to the back broke. All of them! On the working button, half of them had broken--I had to take the working one apart to figure out that the stupid notched white plastic thing and the little brass thing are both splined and if you dont line them up, they will stick on!

So, I duct taped it together and it seems to hold. Even if i never push the button again, at least both map lights and the dome light will go on when i use the dimmer wheel to turn on the overhead lights. The other map one is sure to break eventually too. Nice design!!!

If you lost the brass thing though, you might be screwed. I bet that is a $5 part from Mopar

Yeah, those little plastic rods are like one time use I think. Half of mine are broken off inside the holders. I just said to heck with it and put the thing back up without the lights working and took the sunglass holder out all together. I need to get motivated and at least get the new switches from the dealer, more so now that winter is comming and the lights are nice to have.

About the Brass thingy's, I made the mistake of taking apart the "working" side to us as an example to assemble the side that came apart. The white crown looking thing and the srping and brass part flung itself into my recliner.
I had made a couple of stops at the Junk Yard with no luck, guess I should just go to the Dealer.

Just a quick update, my sunglass holder (and both lights) are still broken.
I have plans to get the new switch(es) kit from the dealer any day now.
But while browsing, I found what one idiot thought the console was worth
What do ya think of This price???
He really wanted it huh?

That price seems high. I got mine from a wrecker for $100 with the harness. If you're just looking to replace the light and glasses holder pick one up on ebay without the computer. Much cheaper and your computer will bolt right in. I think '98 to '02 all use the same housing.

Yeah. Wow, I must be out of it or something, but even $100 sounds like a pretty penny.
I'm good to go, I just need to get the switch kit from the dealer and rig up my broken sunglass door. I'm not too concerned with the sunglass holder, but not having the lights will begin to bug me with Eastern Standard time kicked in now.

I got the overhead console the hole unit with no computer at princess auto here in Vancouver for 10 bucks canadian. Just thought it would be handy for the spare parts. I have allready replaced the sunglass holder. I don't know if they still have any or not you can try looking. I did see one on Ebay out of a 99 but it is up to 25.00.

I tried that Princess Auto, I gave up searching through thier .pdf flyer.

They only have like a limited number of the parts they get at any given time.
I would love to have one without the computer, price sounds sweet too.
