Overfilling a G56

Overfilling a G56
Just got done changing the fluid in my G56.... I didn't overfill it by 1 quart like I have read on here to do. Is there anything wrong with not overfilling a G56? I noticed that after changing the fluid, that it is a little harder to get in each gear.... The temperature did drop 30 degrees since yesterday, or maybe I am just thinking about it to much... Thanks in advance.

No need to over fill the G56. I did mine at 60K miles and it has been fine, I'm now at 116K miles. I will be changing it again at 120K. I used Mopar ATF+4 and the feel of the trans didn't change any. They will be a little tougher to shift when cold. Once warmed up all is well again.

I filled mine with Amsoil ATF and gained marginally better cold morning shifts. I always delay the 2-3 shift for a block or two until the oil warms up some.

Like above, no real need to overfill the G56. I did mine at 45k miles and it feels the same. I used Mopar ATF+4. I do notice it shifts a little harder when cold but also smooths out after a few miles of driving and warming up. I'm sure you are fine.

for those that tow the front bearing does not get the cooling it needs unless it has the extra quart. some were shipped from the factory near a quart low and a lot of them were destroyed. we got one of them but caught it at 12,000 miles when we installed the trans-cool the fluid was burnt. we replaced the bearing and seal the case is aluminum and i was not sure i caught in time but that was in early 06 now has 170,000 and no problem

I changed my fluid to the Amsoil ATF, improved shifting moderately, still a little stiff when cold. I do not add the extra quart. Have had NO problems with the tranny. I change it every 15K.

How much fluid does the G56 hold? When should it be changed? Is it hard to do in the garage? I bought this truck with 22,000 miles on it. Just over 63k now and I haven't changed it.

it holds 6 quarts
no worry of blowing seal
trans-cool holds 1 quart
over fill 1 quart
total 8 quarts
change every 100,000 miles
my shop has a pump and i just hold a rag around the tube for the extra quart most fill through the shifter

Owners manual says every 60k miles but I would do it every 40k or so depending on driving and towing
Very easy to do in your garage
