orginal flywheel thickness

I am in the process of putting a new clutch/pressure plate in my 97 3500 ram. I took my flywheel to the local machine shop and had it re-surfaced. I went to pick it up today and he said I would need to shim my flywheel in order to make up for what he had to grind off. He also said it looked like it had been done before. Is there a minium thickness you can take them to before you have to shim. He said he took off .008" I have no way of knowing what was took off the first time and I cannot find out what the thicness of a new flywheel is. Help

Thanks Chris S.

im not to familer with turn flywheels but i turn rotors and if its close to the same taking off .008 is a good amount and must of been warped pretty good but to answer your question your best bet would be call the dodge dealer and asking the min. for it and more than likely they will give you a warr. number but that is just if say we get some rotors and turn them past warr. numbers we replace them since being so new so double check to make sure its not warr. number

I don't know about the thickness of the flywheel or anything, but at one time when I was surfing napa.com I came across flywheel shims. Just figured I'd let you know that incase you have to buy one.

Later....Josh
