Rick, you still running sheep? My grandfather Trygve Solberg used to run several bands up in the Boulder Canyon country. He never had a good mule like that one, but he did say, some of the best meat he ever ate was lion.
Jlells01, you ever ride a good mule?

OOPS. When I asked Rick about sheep, I was thinking he was in Montana. What I get for trying to keep up with everyone here while I'm also trying to work.
Glad today's my Friday this week, I need it .
To answer the question, Boulder Canyon is outside of Big Timber Montana. Right pretty country, wish I still lived there.

I have a gaited mule (from a Walkin horse mare) and one of the most sure footed animals out there. You need one to chase a cat like that, notice the dogs in the back ground it also takes several of dogs that are well trained to even get close enough to see a cat let alone have it as a trophy on the mantle. I have chased cats for 2-3 days at a time to get them from botherin the cattle. Ranchers near by are always looking for help to catch the cat.

Hmmm thats something. Never in a million years would I have thought of a mule to kill a Mountain Lion. I admit I have never had to wory abought any preditors growing up in the midwest but that is a little weird to think of having a mule to guard livestock. Mayby I should get one. For whatever reason the mountain lions have decided to move into this area latlely. There have been more and more siteings over the last year. I wonder what atracts them to this neck of the woods. The flat as a board ground or the endles miles of corn and bean feilds or the complete absense of wooded timber or what? Maby its all the mules like those that are driving them out of there natural habitat.

You now what we use thoses mules on? Tie one to a green horse, ( as in tie them together ) and let them live together for a while. the mule will teach the horse a lesson or two. The green horse will fight and pull and try to get away and the mule will kick the crap out'a the other horse, and just pull em around all day untill the horse cant handle it anymore.
