Once again another SR post.
I just recently pulled my silencer ring, and I love the way it makes that holset sing, but I just noticed on my economy monitor that i have lost a mpg since pulling the ring. I was just curious as to why i have seemed to lose fuel economy by removing it. I wont replace it, but i was just curious as to why.

I don't know. Haven't pulled mine yet and that brings up the question of why pull the ring? and how many of you out there have pulled yours? Should have made it a poll.......

I removed and modified my pre-turbo intake system one part and mod at a time so I could determine what the differences were in sound and gauge readings. The silencer ring does make a difference, but I found removing the silencing baffles in the intake tube to make a more significant increase in impeller whine. After that, the super BHAF I made sounded the most like a naked turbo...

I'm not fond of to much noise.I've never considered pulling mine or adding a cool blue hose etc.I hear some go by me with this loud high pitch whistle(Fords also) and I do not want to hear that all the time.I just barely like my exhaust.

Have to say that's an impressive air cleaner!

XLR8R, do you mean the white fins that were below the intake tube that the silencer ring was in? I did not do that to mine, I'm thinking about it, though. It looked like more of a air directional thing than a restrictor. All I need is a little 'o.k.' to rip all that stuff off and take it out...

The amount of noise at WOT isnt anything to be especially excited over, you can just hear the turbo pulling in more air. Kinda like if breath in through your mouth really fast. But when you get of the throttle to slow down or shift, you can hear the turbo wind down alot more.

Maybe this is or isn't important to someone considering removing these turning vanes, but at least the ultimate decision can perhaps be a more informed one.
