Is it an old wise tale?

The local farmers around me are telling me that I should not be adding TCW-3 2 stroke oil to my fuel, but I should be adding Automatic transmission fluid instead. They say that have been doing it for years in everything diesel and it will take out and injector and pump problems you may have.
I was wondering if anyone had run ATF and does it cause any damage or any buildup? What is the best additive to run with this new low sulfer fuel **** they have out now.

Sorry I don't have my model infor, but I have a 01 4x4

ive heard of people running tranny fluid but you have to watch out for the synthetics and synthetic blends because anything synthetic does not burn. as for 2 stroke oil being bad... i dont think so, it lubricates and it burns. i run a gallon of waste motor oil with every tank.

Tranny fluid has friction modifiers in it! On a 12v with a P-pump it may not be too bad but I wouldnt run too much tranny fluid through my VP44! Just my .02

Test results. used engine oil only showed a 2 micron improvement over straight diesel. TCW-3 was 162 micron improvement. marvel mystery oil was a 42 micron loss of lubrication over straight diesel. proof that it's nothing but solvent and great for cleaning stuff. ATF is not a very good lubricant.

I know plenty of guys that run it in their trucks/vehicles all the time. I've always heard it helps clean any dirt out of an injection system, whether it be diesel or gas.

used it for 41 years to fix sticky governors, pump and injector problems, saved me ten's of thousands of dollars, the dextron will clean and lubricate very well and have used it to fix sticky injectors in a 03

I'd be doing a lot more research before adding ATF to the tank, but to each their own.

A lot of people swear by 2-stroke oil or diesel fuel modifiers too --including myself.

Tranny fluid isn't designed to burn so to speak. It will but it doesn't like to. It's also got friction modifiers in it that are designed to keep things from slipping.

Years ago I read about a mixture called Drew's Brew, a ratio of Mystery Oil and Power Service. Seems to work for me, but I am not clamming huge MPG or power increases.

Yes, ATF in fuel is an old farmers tale. This used to be done years ago, when all diesel engine fuel systems were mechanical.

Todays ATF I would not run through a diesel, especially a vp44. However, 2 stroke oil wont hurt, because that is what 2 stroke oil is formulated for.

I have ran ATF in my 01 24v with no problems but now I use power services every time I fill up. If I did not have any ps I would put ATF in again. Just my opinion

Never run ATF thru todays diesel. It may have been ok 41 years ago, but not now.

I add 2-cycle oil to mine and it helps quiet the engine down noticeably. I would not put used oil or tranny fluid in the fuel though, I am not that desperate yet. I add power service occasionally, and once ran seafoam in it but it did not seem to do anything and my gasser ran rougher after it, so I did not bother again.
