Has the overflow valve and fuel hoses ever been changed out? If not I would start there first. When it dies and you pop the clutch and it restarts that might rule out the fuel shut off solnoid, but not entirely. Also a weak fuel shut off solnoid relay could be causing problems. But I would check the overflow valve and hoses first. Goodluck,,Rick

Mine did exactly the same thing when new.
Problem was the overflow valve.

Bad hoses cause hard starting but rarely cause any problem besides leaking fuel once the engine is running.

I worked on one truck that the line fromt the tank before the fuel pump was letting just enough air in that it would actually cause the fuel pump to somewhat cavitate and the pump would catch up when the driver would let off the throttle?? But granted that it was a rare situation. Goodluck,,Rick

Well boys Blue has not had one of those spells since Wednesday. Ive put 450 mi. on him since the last one . I called my buddy at Oreilly's they don't stock overflow valves . Is it a dealer item or what.
I do appreciate the help.

Also a filter in the lift pump bowl, and a filter screen in the tank.

And the Fuel Solenoid could be weakening, fluttering in cold weather.

Posted symptoms are same as running out of fuel - misses, revs up, then dies.

It sounds like something I've seen several times on 94s and 95s. The sound you mention gives it away. I describe it as a chattering. The ones I've seen were unfortunately internal injector pump problems.

I modded my tank vent so that it still functions as a rollover valve, but doesn't maintain a vacuum in the tank. I didn't see any performance difference, but I got tired of hearing a "whoosh" every time I opened the cap
