ok, it starts hard but...

I bought this truck a over a month ago and love it so far. I changed all filters w/fleetguard units when i got it. It fires right up in the morning no matter what. In the short time I've had it, I have experienced single digit morning start ups without plugging it in. Regardless of the morning it fires without making a full revolution. Shutting the engine down and restarting within approximately 10-15 minutes yields quick start up.

If the truck sits more than 15-20 minutes, however, it takes quite a while to fire. The starter turns for approx 4-5 seconds before the engine fires. Doesnt seem like very long but if you count it in your head and envision motor cranking, it's forever. If the truck sits long enough (more than 2 hours) it starts fine.

Could this be the return/relief valve on the vp? The truck has 140k on it, averages 16mpg and has loads of power otherwise. The fuel pressure is 15 at idle but its a mech guage I rigged up and cant check while driving. I dont know if the lp, or vp for that matter, have ever been touched.

I had the same problem when I installed a FASS. My VP44 didn't like the higher fuel pressure.

There are a lot of things you can try to combat the problem of hard starts with aftermarket fuel pumps, but in the end you'll will see that the stock LP is the way to go.

It's easily replaced on the side of the road, if you carry a spare under the back seat. If you're aftermarket pump goes bad you are up the creek without a paddle.

It sounds to me like this hard start is completely unrelated to any FASS type starting issues.

On one hand FASS causes hard starts due to high fuel pressure.

But this is completely different. His FP is normal, and the truck is ONLY hard to start after it's sat for a couple minutes.

I'd replace the VP44 overflow and go from there...

Correct, i DO NOT have a fass system, I'm gonna try to get the overflow valve tomorrow from the K-dubya dealer. I guess it wouldnt bother me as much if it didnt feel like the whole dam truck was gonna shake apart when the engine turns over

Sorry, I was just looking at another thread from Gambino about running two LP's in series and I "assumed" the problem was higher than normal pressure.

Mine wouldn't start at 16psi when the engine was hot, but it would start everytime at 12 with the stock LP, as did a lot of other people that posted this exact problem when they installed aftermarket fuel pumps.

It could very well be his overflow valve, just throwing my .02 in, not bashing FASS.

It was not the case with mine, many nights with the hood up on my truck lead me to believe that my stock LP was the best alternative for me.

Just wanted to clarify that I wasn't giving him mis-information, just another possible scenario to look at.

Nuff said
