Ok, when buying a CTD - SWB vs. LWB
Ok, got a question for you knowledgeable folk!
In looking at the used market - a '04 to a '05 6 Spd 4x4 QC.
I don't have an immediate need for the Long Bed, however I think the extra room to haul and eventually getting a Gooseneck or 5th Wheel camper is in the plans. I like to go off-roading and would be mudding and taking all the switchback roads here in AZ. This CTD purchase is going to be a long term keeper and I am trying to plan with the future in mind.
If we were to get quads or dirtbikes also in the distant future I would like to have the room with th 8 FT bed. How many of you with LWB's offroad yours often? Not just driving down a dirt road but actually offroading it.
Is it more stable with say a 4" and some 35's w/ a LWB? Or are there just more curb checks?
Is there much draw backs to a Long Bed over a Short Bed?
Can I get some arguements for both sides?
Thanks!
John

Long bed for the win!!!
the only reason I don't cuss my short bed is because of the long cab
I love the looks and function of a long bed, wish my mega had a long bed but then it would need 4 wheel steering!

That's just it. It means parking it out of the way in parking lots cuz it's not something to whip in and out of spaces. I like the looks of them, and the wife said she doesn't like them, too long. OH WELL, guess that will just limit her need to driving it then!! ROFLMAO!
I know that shorter wheelbased vehicles are better to wheel with, however I don't plan on takin it down a ATV path either!
Thanks for all the input so far! I am leaning more to the LB, just the color yellow I haven't found in LWB. Guess I will have to goto a silver - I do like the Silver Metallic outer with the Grey Slate interior!

If you are buying it for a specific use, you need to get one for what you want adn are going to be using it for.
I have the short bed and would not trade for it. I haul dirt bikes, do construction work, and occasionally make runs for a hot shot company here occasionally pulling a 5th wheel trailer. Yes it is a pain sometimes and the extra space would be nice, but I like the looks of the short box enough that the loss of space does not matter to me.
Bottom line - you are the one paying for it - get what makes you happy and will do the job you are buying it to do.
Good luck.

Initially I wasn't too keen on the LB, however the more I look at it and the further I think of it I like the thought of having one.
The SB is nice yet the LB would be better and longer hauls easier. I personally don't want to put a tool box in it or a spare fuel tank. If anything I would buy a tank from a wrecked truck and find a way to put it under the bed like the factory one.

well i have a reg cab with the long bed and i love it i have hauled 2 tons of pellets in the back of it and had no problem. and i have the bright silver metallic paint with the slate int. its pretty sharp looking and i have had a couple people say it looks nice but even with a reg cab and long bed it fills a parking space line to line and most times i either have to hang the *** end over the curb or leave the nose out a little. if you want i can send you some pics of what it looks like inside and out

long bed or short, I always park in BFE nothing worse then a truck with a bunch of door dings from lazy people who park up front.

Short bed is like (insert word for breasts here) on a Bull.
They seem real popular, I have yet to figure out why. As long as it's a truck and I own it, it will have an 8' bed.
To each his own though, no offense to the short box owners of course.

Main reason I went with the long bed is because I still wanted a truck bed after I added my toolbox. It rides smoother than a short box too and seems to track better in the snow. Parking lots are a pain if they are crowded but I usually park in BFE too to avoid dings (and I still get them) I have a bad habit of taking 2 or sometimes even 4 parking spaces. Ticks some people off but I don't care. Hey - I win - I got more lugnuts.
