After 2 years of 300 miles to a tank of gas with my 2003 2500 Hemi I am now closing in on 500 miles on this tank of fuel with my 2003 2500 CTD and I still have fuel left in the tank I suspect I should get around 525- 550 on this tank. I am very pleased that is almost twice as good. I know you guys arent surprised by this but I am tickled pink

Yup, are fleet of 2500 hemi field trucks are getting a generous 12mpg.

Dont forget you may have a larger fuel tank (34 gals). My 03 CTD 2500 will get about 450 driving moderately. I have 4.10s

Yeah Captn Ron I checked that when I got the new one they both have 34 gallon tanks and DSLrammin I would be lucky to get 12 with the type of driving I do with my Hemi I hand calculated it a pretty consistent 10.50 to 11.5 MPG I would say I have a 50/50 mix city and highway.

It was a big shock fro me too when I first got my truck 2 moths ago, I went from 325/ tank to about 550/ tank.

Glad you're happy but don't know why you got such lousy Hemi mileage. I could stretch the Cummins mileage to about 460-500~ miles down to 1/8th~ tank. With the Hemi duplicate I'm right at 400~ miles at 1/8th tank. My next truck will probably be another Cummins powered Ram, very possibly another '01.5 with 6spd/3.55 if I happen upon a clean one. But I'm not dissappointed at all with the Hemi's mileage or performance. It's a bit thirstier than the Cummins but neither compares to a Honda Civic or Jetta diesel.
I'm glad we're in a country that we can have Hemis and Cummins in HD trucks.
I bet this one'll draw some gas but I'd still like to have it.

I got a shock going from the PSD to the Cummins. I knew the Cummins was supposed to be good on fuel, but I didn't really believe the numbers people were saying. Now I know.

Well, I just pulled our 5er through the mountains for 1250 miles and I got 13 MPG pulling. Sometimes I got 13.5 ! I was touching 14 MPG until I started racing an unloaded semi up a mountain.

My neighbor is getting less than 16 with his Dakota running empty ! How can it be that a Cummins pulls a truck and big trailer through the mountains and gets such incredible fuel economy ?

I think it really helps that I advanced the timing on my engine. The OD is faster on the Ford ZF6 and the tires or larger than a stock Dodge truck and I let it pull down to 1500 RPM in OD before downshifting when pulling hills. That is about 50 MPH. Most of the highway roads we were on had 55 MPH speed limits. The Cummins has a ton of torque and seems to get really good fuel economy when driven at low RPMs.

The PSD would get 11 or 11.5 occasionally , but the conditions had to be just right. Mostly it got 10 or 10.5.

I'm getting 20 MPG with gentle city driving.

I smile ear to ear whenever I drive my truck.

One more thing: I had a Hemi Dodge pulling a very small 5er following me for a while. I lost him on a big climb. Either he was really feathering the throttle or he didn't have much power. I weighed about 16,500lbs.

He was probably like many who tow with gasser, paranoid of high rpm. I can maintain 60mph uphill in 2nd at 4200rpm. Won't hurt a thing but the gas card. I'm getting 8.5 towing on the flats and 7.2 in the hills. I was getting 10.5 with my '03 Cummins powered duplicate towing the same 10,040 lb 5th wheel. 14~ in town empty and 17hwy compared to 17-18.5 city and 19hwy with the Cummins. It's definately different...

My one time so far pulling my camper which is 25' long and 5500lbs wet. Through some very windy and hilly roads in MO I got 12.5 MPG hand calculated with my CTD I would have probably got about 7-8 with the Hemi. Although the Hemi had plenty of power for towing my camper this better MPG is awesome.

A month ago I was able to leave Greenville TN on a full tank and drive 635 miles to Ocala FL before filling up. This was at 80mph cruise control unloaded.
I was pleased, it worked out to 16.7 mpg when I filled up.

ive got an 03 6sp ho w/ 4.10's. i modded the tone wheel and now pull down a consistant 700 miles a tank unloaded. before the mod i averaged around 625-650 per tank.

I just turned 14,000 miles on the odometer and I'm getting over 600 miles per tank.

I drive mostly highway and I usually drive around 60 MPH, give or take a few M'sPH.

It's all hand calculated too.

Now that I'm working only 7 miles away from home I expect a full tank of fuel to last me ~6 weeks anyway (adding in non-work-commute miles too). With the way fuel prices are fluctuating day to day I can wait it out.

Can't beat that with a stick!
