I caught a 1/2 off sale on Oilguard in Mar 2001. Filter kit was ~$135 and 20 elements for ~$7@. It does what they say and I'm set for life for <$275! Craig

Kind of off topic: How does a bypass filter (like the one from amsoil or the fs2500) work? I guess I don't see how it can do such a good job filtering and the normal filter the rest of the world is using is so far below par?

Well The Best Way To Tell You About It Is To Go To There Sight, They Tell The Whole Story , Also About The 1/2 off Sale ? Man That Wqs Great Deal ! Wish i Cought That One , Are You Sure it Was Oilguard Not MotorGuard ?? I Keep a Close Eye Out For Sales On OILGUARD . They Are The Best In My Books , i Have Tried Gulf filters,AmsoilAnd Motorguard, They Did Not Work As Well. We Run OILGUARD on Our Big Rigs & Change out Oil Every 60k & The Oil Still Test Out Ok
We Use R/P Long Rider Oil In All Our Stuff. Well i Just Got Back From a 500 mile Run & Man The Oil In My Dodge Looks New ! WOW !!

Guys Give it a Try , Its The Best Thing Out There for your Oil & Motor Very Good Investment .

Best Regards,
TB

Bypass systems like Oilguard take a small quantity of the engine oil(about a quart a minute) and filter it down to about 2 microns. This removes most of the 5-15 micron size wear particles that are suspended in your motor oil. These particles (according to the bypass manufacturers) cause 90% of the wear inside most engines. Since your stock unit usually filters to about 20 microns, a lot of good size bits just keep passing thru the filter and recirculating thru your motor(and building up).

Stock filters really cannot filter much better than they do because this would restrict flow thru the filter, and starve the engine of lubrication.

So there are the general principles involved.

Now, the truth. Even with a bypass system, soot builds up, TBN is depleted, and other compounds still accumulate in the oil (acids, wear metals and other not so good stuff) Another truth is that synthetics will not extend your drain interval over dino(for the same reasons as above). The bad stuff that builds up in dino, builds up in synthetic too. The additives that get depleted in dino, get depleted in synthetics as well.

All that being said, i'm a bypass user changing my oil at 10,000 mile intervals.
Cheers
Mike

I had an Oilguard on my 03 6.0 POS and it worked great.
You can send them samples and they post it to an e accessable site so you can see how your engine is doing.

I run the dual remote system and run the oil 25000 miles with no problems. I ran the same oil in my old 89 for 60,000 (4 1/2 years) miles and the TBN was still in range and the samples were good at 60,000 miles. Oh well, that's just me.

I've had the Oilguard since I switched to syn and UOAs so I don't know how my UOAs would look without it. I know it keeps my soot lower than 99% of other guys UOAs I've seen. Don't laugh when you see an Oilguard element - string wound elements are great! I've used them in several applications. The filtering charactoristics can be controlled by how they are wound and they have exceptional holding capacity. Craig

Yep, My Partner has ran his oil with a Oilgaurd bypass system Over 100k &
TBN Are still in range, Man you can pay for a oilguard bypass set up Very Fast
Syn Oil 5-8 Bucks a qt . even Changing Out 60k It Would Pay Out Fast. & Look How Clean The engine Stays , I'm Thinking About Running a Trans Filter System From
Oilguard , With The 10% Off This Month Why Not ! Cant Beet The Deal !
