Has anyone had engine oil collect on top of their oil filter? This condition has persisted since new. I've made sure their is no doubling of the gasket, as well as a clean and flat mating surface. It appears to be leaking from the turbo oiler line. The dealership replaced the o-ring on the oil line fitting, but its still leaking. Truck has 19K miles. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Normal to have a little in the top filter groove. Mine does it but it is because I coat the gasket with a little oil when installing. As long as it hasen't run down the filter you don't have any issues.

In my mind, there shouldn't be ANY oil resting anywhere on the top of the oil filter. I always put a little dab of oil on my o-ring when I change my filter and I have yet to have any oil in the filter groove.

Dry it off good and watch it. If it is the line fitting area as you say then replace the fitting or hose assembly and the seal. A small scrape or scratch or bad fitting is preventing the new seal from doing it's job. I forget exactly how this is put together but if the fitting presses the seal to the housing then the housing may be bad. Might be possible to smooth it out with emery paper if it is scratched otherwise might need new housing. Some high viscosity sticky gasket maker applied to the sealing surfaces might fix it but that is a crutch. I would get a warranty repair. Could be a crack or porosity in the housing too. Too new a truck to patch it, make the dealer fix it right.

BTW it is very rare for a diesel to catch fire but an oil leak on a turbo line is a classic recipe for a fire that will burn the truck to the ground. Might want to mention that to a dealer if they do not take it seriously.

Are you down shifting the transmission by hand at a high RPM?

No. Its an auto, and I don't manual shift it (either up or down shift). Also, the oil runs down the cannister and is beginning to wet the tie rod. Going to take it to the dealer again....thanks for the reference to 'classic turbo fire'. This time I'll request a new line be installed. Thanks everyone.
