oil smell/loosing oil

I have noticed for a little while now and oil smell and smoke when I stop. I don't notice it going down the road. Friend of mine told me its normal until I checked the oil level this morning and there is just a little bit on the end of the dipstick. I changed the oil about 3000mi ago and have checked it several times since I noticed the smell and smoke start. I haven't noticed any nocking and the truck still runs the same.

Probably losing it out the bypass/blowby tube. Follow the tube off the rear of the valve cover down to the driver side rear of the block.

I tied a bottle to the end of the tube and it is blowing it out. I had to put 2 gallons of oil in it to fill it up. I talked to the dealer and it is going in today to get checked out. service man said we are possibly looking at a new short block.

You read right, GALLONS. It has blown that much out in the last 2-3 weeks. I checked all over and I can't find any leaks, just oil all over the front diff and back from the blowby tube.

I checked my bottle to see how much was blowing out, there was a few drops in the bottle but the outside was covered so it has to be coming from somewhere else. after doing a better inspection with a flashlight I found oil around the block/head joint. There is a little oil splattered on the firewall and seems to drip down the driver's side of the engine. COuld this be a bad head gasket? Has anyone had a situation like this?

How much boost are you running? You can blow all kinds of seals out.

Sounds like it will be an easy fix.

I bought the truck used so as far as I know it's stock. I took it in this morning, hopefully I will have a diagnosis by this afternoon.

No no no no no...

This is an opportunity!!!!

You need to go TURBO SHOPPING and find yourself a big bad mean turbo that will breath FIRE into your Cummins!!!!

Wish my turbo was bad! Some guys here have awesome blowers that are making great power and spool up faster. This is a chance to upgrade in a big way!!!!

Even with the bad turbo the truck was running good. I just need it fixed. I'm tired of driving the 20 yr old truck (ford 7.3 no turbo) I'm driving now.
