oil smell in cab after oil change
This only occures after a oil change and goes away after about 500 miles. I have checked the cowl seal and do not notice any problem with it. I removed the crank case bottle and ran a hose downto the lower part of the block. I have read several post on this problem with no real fix.I am using rotella oil. The smell is worse when stoped after a long drive. Hardly noticed when moving. Any thoughts Robby

I have the same problem, and honestly don't know if it is the oil that I smell or the fuel that I smell.
I used to smell fuel after fueling up, but that would go away quickly. I now have the oil smell and cannot let the truck idle, as the smell or fumes build up in the cab, and that can't be good.
With the weather getting cold, I like to leave the truck idling when I fuel up or make quick trips into the store. The smell when I return is terrible.

Seems to me I saw a bulletin somewhere about the smell of oil right after an oil change. It explained why and what to do about it to help keep the smell out of the cab. Might try a search here.

Its probably the oil that's left on the sleve of your shirt
Try one of those quick drain valves from geno's. wrap a plastic bag around your oil filter after you crack her loose then unscrew it with the bag on to keep the oil from oozing down the chassis.

You can use 3/4inch hose (the clear braided kind) from home centers and relocate the blowby tube to exit behind the engine. I have done this and the smell is gone. Search Blow-by relocation, or puke-bottle relocation and you will find threads about this. There are many who have relocated it and now don't smell it in the cab. It costs about 5 dollars to do, and it saves the smell.

Often it half falls off and you'll find it hanging around the air filter/box.

I was misinformed about the oil capacity of my truck and I filled it with 12 quarts of Delo 400. I had a BAD oil smell. I drained off that extra quart and no more stink.

That's what I was told, and it made sense to me, too. Then I found out from other sources (including here) that it was 11 INCLUDING the filter. It shows full on the dipstick, so I'm pretty sure it's right.
