I would not worry about it unless it happens again!

On your 99, O psi does not mean '0'. It means less than 8 psi +/- (working from memory).
Did you ck your oil level on the dip stick before changing it?

RJ,
The 99 actually has a real oil pressure sensor. If the gauge is reading "O" then the sensor is going bad or there is another problem.

I have been experiencing a similiar issue.

Last Friday on my way home from work I stoped at a friend house for about an hour or so, (truck ran great, oil presure 3/4 range) on my way home I lost oil presure (according to my gauge) my "check gauge" light came on, so I pulled over, turned off the engine, checked my dipstick, checked for leakes etc. Oil level was good, no leaks to be found, so I fired it back up and my gauge was at 3/4 range so I drove home. So I drove all week and everything was fine until today, it did the same thing. I asumming that my oil pressure sending unit either has a bad connection or is taking a ****.
Are these sending units expensive or hard to change? It should just thread into the block right? Where is it located?

Easy to change. Just takes a 32mm deep well. The sensor is located on the fuel side of the engine down around the ecm towards the driver. It is usually a beige or black plastic with a brass bottom.

Sorry if my info was wrong.
Thought the 98.5 thru 01 oil sensors/gauges were all basically 3 position....low, good and high. I know the 01 is. When did they make that change?

Will this be a common part at my local parts store or should I order online through a particular site?
What should I expect to pay?
Thanks

My truck read 0 psi the day after I bought it new. 7 years ago and over 70k. I started it the next day and everything was fine. The dealer could find nothing wrong. Hasn't had a problem since.

Don't know about local parts stores. I had to replace mine... got it at a Dodge Dealer. If I remember correctly it was under $30.00.
