Oil pressure on startup
How long after starting does it take you to see oil pressure? I'm seeing maybe 2-3 seconds before the pressure comes up on a '97 CDT?
Thanks.
Thanks.

That is how it should be. The computer takes just a moment to get things going. As long as you see something around about 40 you are alright. Enjoy the truck.

Ditto on the oil pressure pause, Hey both of you look at my signature on mods, Mine was stock till two weeks ago,I left mine alone for a long time, Going with what was suggested I can only tell you that the truck is nothing like it was,it is as different as night and day,It is no racer as I did not want one,I only wanted it to pull my fith wheel and car hauler better,The setup I have was long thought out,as I did not want to rebuild trans,as mine is a auto,so this is how I went,I wished you were close to compare, anyway just proud of mine and it is true it can be addicting as I road in a 700hp truck and wow it was simply amazing,so hope this helps, Goodluck Rick

It's just right
That's what you're going to see. Mine is like that, all of mine have been. There is a slight delay while oil pressure builds, and another slight delay while your gauge responds. I've addressed this Q a lot of times, and just tell the asker "Start at idle, wait for oil pressure"
The later engines with computer controls will make the statement unnecessary, as they will simply ignore throttle request until oil pressure is adequate.

Kandgo,
Nice setup on your truck. I would like to do a few things to mine also, but am leary as to the tranny. Got 150000 on the original oem, and not sure how it was treated before I got it. It came to Ky from Hoss's area. Once I get the extra $$ put away, I will probably up a few things as I do quite a bit of pulling/hauling with it. I also use it as a daily driver and tool truck. It runs 7 days a week and gets a bath just about every time it rains

Yea,I too will do the tranny when it gives trouble,My truck had 90k when I did the upgrades, your not to far away from there at 150k ask around call piers and see what they suggest,I personaly would not be afraid to #10 it whith 3gsk and retime, because what I learned is the #10 comes on strong when the transmission pressures are up in the high range, which helps alow it not to slip, call piers and talk whith them they are great to answer any questions,I was a little skeptical too about my mileage, anyway good luck Rick

That is about the right amount of time. If it realy bothers you, why not install a oil pressure sending unit in the system and monitor it in your cab thru a aftermarket gage? pretty simple to do.

Re:Oil pressure on startup
The oil pressure in mine takes anywhere from 3 - 7 seconds to come up on the factory gauge. After if dropped to nothing and came right back up when I came to a stop one day, I decided I would feel better if I installed an aftermarket gauge. I installed an Isspro mechanical gauge and the pressure comes up within 2 seconds after starting. The warning ding still goes off until the pressure comes up on the factory gauge, but I feel a lot better knowing that I have oil pressure sooner than that. It always bothered me before I put the Isspro in.
I have read about others loosing oil pressure right after coming to a stop, and then it comes right back up, but I still wanted to know exactly what was going on.
